Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) Vacancy announcement: Executive Director

Background

PSFU is the Apex body of the private sector in Uganda, is member-based with a membership now standing at over 130 business associations, professional bodies, corporates and public sector agencies that support private sector growth.

PSFU mission is "to promote private sector influence for business growth and market competitiveness through policy advocacy and capacity building in a sustainable manner".

To date, PSFU has made significant gains in membership services, policy research, dialogue and advocacy on behalf of the private sector in Uganda.

PSFU is seeking to recruit a dynamic, experienced, result-oriented and qualified individual to fill the position of Executive Director to effectively, efficiently and professionally manage the institution.

Job Summary

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive.Officer of PSFU and has the full responsibility for successful management of the institution in the efficient and effective execution of its mandate.

He/She is responsible for designing and developing business plans for acquisition and growth of business portfolio to meet revenue and income targets and the administration and delivery of top quality service responsive to client needs.

The Executive Director who is a non voting member of the Board serves as its Secretary, reports to the Board for policy guidance and is responsible for day to day running of the institution on clearly established authority within policy guidelines.

Major duties and responsibilities.
  • To develop strategies to meet PSFU objectives and implement-Board policies through well articulated annual work plans
  • To ensure that PSFU human resource capacities are adequate and appropriately equipped to implement PSFU programmes.
  • To maintain harmonious Board / Management relationship and to ensure timely implementation of Board decisions.
  • To develop and maintain team spirit and good working relationships among the entire PSFU staff and the various projects and project staff.
  • To develop and maintain very good contacts and working relationships with various stakeholders including government, donors, PSFU members and the business community at large.
  • To project a very good image of the institution to enable it deliver quality service to the members.
  • To oversee and coordinate the projects that the PSFU implements on behalf of Government, funders and any other party.
Qualifications and Experience.
  • The Executive Director should have a minimum of a Masters degree in economics or business related discipline such as an MBA from a recognised University or an equivalent professional qualification from a recognised institution.
  • A successful track record of at least seven years experience in a senior management position of business-oriented institutions in the public or private sector.
  • Should have a demonstrable experience with high standing of the business community and involvement in advocacy initiatives and activities particularly for the private sector.
  • Posses a good track record reflecting a level of seniority in establishing a sustained dialogue with senior Government officials and the Development Partners.
  • Good understanding of public operations and policies and be familiar with procedures of development partners
  • A clear commitment and understanding of the overall objective of enhancing private sector development in Uganda and should demonstrate insight into how to make the private sector competitive.
  • Strong management skills, including ability to provide strategic guidance, technical oversight, mentor staff, build strong teams, develop work plans, and manage budgets.
  • Excellent negotiation, multi-cultural, and inter-personal skills, with experience and demonstrated skills in networking with ministry-level partners, donors and private sector.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written, analytical, excellent presentation and reporting skills, with proven skill in writing reports.
Duration and Terms:

The Executive Director is appointed on a five year renewable Service Contract as determined by the Board. The continuation of the contract is solely based on performance at the discretion of the PSFU Board.

The remuneration package for the position is negotiable.
