Joint Medical Store (JMS) Job Advertisement: Medical Equipment Technician

Joint Medical Store (JMS) is a Church founded private not-for-profit organization whose mission is to supply medicines, medical equipment and related healthcare services, and training of assured quality to the people of Uganda at affordable prices.

One of the key services that JMS provides to its customers is repair and maintenance of a variety of medical equipment products.

Following an increase in work load both at out workshop and at various member units' health facilities, JMS would like to increase the size of its workshop team by recruiting a qualified and experienced Medical Equipment Technician.

Scope of Position

This is a full time job where the Job holder will be involved in installation of a variety of medical equipment at customer sites, train users, carry out preventive maintenance and repair works in line with the JMS guidelines and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Carry out maintenance and repair of customers' medical equipment brought to the workshop.
  2. Participate in outreach visits to customer sites to install, test, and commission medical equipment, carry out maintenance and repair works.
  3. Provide advisory services to customers about medical equipment standardization and replacement planning, establishing safety at work and fire prevention.
  4. Participate in delivering medical equipment management training programes for member units.
  5. Participate in the development of specifications for medical equipment on the JMS standard list and advise customers on the appropriate equipment in order to match their needs
  6. Ensure safe custody of workshop tools and equipment, and plan for their replenishment.
  7. Provide technical advice and support to JMS with respect to operational equipment and other installations where applicable.
Qualifications and experience
  • A higher diploma in medical, electro-mechanical, electronic engineering or the equivalent.
  • Specialized training in repair and maintenance of medical equipment is a key requirement.
  • A minimum of two working experience in a similar position.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret schematics and equipment service manuals
  • Competence in using all applicable test equipment and workshop tools required in the performance of the outlined duties
  • A good team player with strong interpersonal and customer care skills
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and follow up tasks to end with minimum supervision
  • Well developed written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
Working conditions
  • Day to day duties will be executed in a technical workshop environment
  • Job holder will occasionally travel to customer sites located in different parts of Uganda to carry out official duties.
