Job Description 
The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a multi-displinary state corporation whose core mandate is identification, preservation, conservation and development of Kenya's rich and diverse heritage. This mandate is fulfilled through the work of several directorates key among which are the Directorate of museums, Sites and Monuments (DMSM). The position of Assistant Director, Museums, Site and Monuments (Western Region) has now become vacant. Weare seeking to recruit kenyan national with strong administrative, organizational, leadership skills and extensive experience in research and heritage management to fill this position.
Position and functions
Reporting to Director, Museums, Sites and Monuments. The holder of this position is responsible for coordination and implementation of strategies and policies related to the development of museums, sites and monuments within the Western Region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Implementation of the NMK mission and policy in western region and 
    ensuring effective communication flows within the region, the NMK headquarters and stakeholders.
  2. Coordination, identification and protection of Sites and Monuments in 
    the region.
  3. Implementation and promotion of conservation standards and practices 
    within the region
  4. Promotion of national/international institutional partnerships with 
    the relevant stakeholders related to public programmes and heritage conservation management.
  5. Coordination and support of the development of public programmes 
    within the region.
  6. Coordination of regional fundraising and revenue generation 
    initiatives.
  7. Planning and mapping out of future development of museums, sites and 
    monuments in the region.
  8. Providing guidance and leadership to curators, conservators and 
    public programmes staff within the region
  9. Monitoring and regularly evaluating the performance of staff within 
    the region
  10. Carrying out any other duties assigned by Director, Museums, Sites 
    and Monuments.

Requirement for Appointment
  1. Be in possession of at least a Masters degree in a relevant Arts, 
    Humanities, Social Sciences or Science discipline. A postgraduate formal training in a cultural/heritage 
    management related discipline will be an added advantage.
  2. Have at least five (5) years management experience in heritage or 
    cultural resources management.
  3. Have ability to mobilize resources through fundraising and revenue 
    generation
  4. Have experience in museum/site development or management of cultural 
    and or heritage programme development
