PRO – Media, Hospitality and Protocol: Telkom Kenya


Job Purpose:

The Media and Stakeholders Unit is responsible for ensuring superior quality of Telkom Kenya’s PR programmes, products and services with particular attention to the media fraternity and Telkom Kenya’s stakeholders.

The PRO will work within the Media and Stakeholder unit to ensure the company plays a key role in influencing the wider public policy debate, assist manage relationships with key publics including media, policy makers and influencers, including government, parliament, suppliers, partners and stakeholders, and use an account management approach to promote the work of the organization’s key external audiences.

Objectives:

The post holder is responsible for contributing to the fulfillment of output Media and Stakeholder Relations, and is primarily focused on the following disciplines: reports, counsel support, media relations support, stakeholder communications and crisis/issues management support and agency management.
In the course of the job, the post holder:
  • Prepare briefs for agency and monitor progress on upcoming assignments.
  • Produces materials (e.g., news releases, fact sheets, bylined articles) for media and stakeholder audiences that convey the position and attributes of the company.
  • Prepares for the attention of the functional head media enquiries and information requests.
  • Provides media/political intelligence reports on a daily basis
  • Generate positive media opportunities/media placements in domestic and international media.
  • Assists in the management of stakeholder relationships.
  • Is responsible for keeping abreast of and providing communications support for several industry sectors within telecommunications and related industries.
  • Liaison with the PR and creative agencies to ensure proper and timely execution.
Principal Accountabilities:
  • MPI tracking on a monthly basis
  • Manage media intelligence gathering, proactive/reactive media relations, ensuring quality and accuracy of written information and other supporting materials
  • Support domestic and international stakeholder relations initiatives. Engaged in the planning and successful execution of any stakeholder engagements and presentation of reports
  • Crisis management activation and provision of progress reports
  • Preparing draft responses to media queries
  • Contribute to smooth administrative functioning of the Unit, including invoicing, contract preparation, budget management, fulfillment of reporting requirements
  • Management of Telkom Kenya’s stakeholder data base, ensuring it is constantly up dated
  • Assume responsibilities in an acting on behalf and to represent the Functional Head when and where needed
Assignment and Planning of Work: Reports to the Functional Head of Media and Stakeholder Relations
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Diploma in communications or any related field. A bachelors degree will be an added advantage
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a PR practitioner in a corporate, media house or agency
Skills:
  • Strong written and oral communication skulls
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Resilient with the ability to work to deadlines
  • Flexible
