Vacancy Announcement at Inter-Governmental Standing Committee on Shipping (ISCOS) Secretariat
ISCOS is a regional organization established by the Governments of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia in 1967.
ISCOS represents the interests of Member Governments and Shippers in the region, especially in the fields of Ocean Freight rates, port productivity, research and sensitization of private sector on best trading practices.
The organization is mainly Governments’ funded and employs its staff from all ISCOS Member States.
ISCOS is seeking to recruit professional staff who will be based at the Secretariat Headquarters in Mombasa, Kenya as follows:-
1. Programs Officer, Shipping, Ports and Freight Services

Reporting to the Senior Director of Shipping, Ports and Freight Services, the suitable candidate shall have the following qualifications:-

Reporting to the Senior Director of Shipping, Ports and Freight Services, the suitable candidate shall have the following qualifications:-
By Direct Entry:-
Qualifications
- A University degree in Economics or Statistics.
- Having a post graduate degree in shipping economics/port Management and other maritime studies will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of ICT is essential.
Experience
- He/She must have at least 3 years work experience in the maritime fields in a reputable organization.
- Proven experience in the relevant fields
Duties:-
- Collect data and information on shipping lines regarding the nature and composition of the fleet (ships) including average capacity of ships, age, flag registration, etc
- Collect and store data on traffic flows of imports and exports, container movements and port productivity indicators;
- Monitor changes in patterns and trends in shipping and freight services in the world and in the region;
- Assist in carrying out surveys, research and investigations in port/lake/rivers operations, inland transport costs, etc
- Assist in the preparation of Annual and Quarterly Reports;
- Providing data and information for updating website, brochure etc;
- Analysis of data and information as may be required by the Director or Stakeholders;
- Perform research and investigations onto relevant issues relating to ports and shipping as may be required by the Director or stakeholders;
- Monitor and verify the veracity of the levels of freight charges, Currency Adjustment Factors (CAFs), Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAFs) and Vessel Delay surcharge (VDS) and other related cost of affreightment applicable in the trade;
- Perform other duties as may be directed by the Director of Shipping, Ports and Freight Services
2. Accounts Assistant
Grade GS7
Reporting to the Accountant, the suitable candidate will be a holder of a Diploma in Accountancy and should be registered as an Accounting Technician from a recognized body.
Experience: Three years experience in the field of accountancy in a reputable organization.

Duties
- Prepare and record all payments vouchers, credit/debt notes, and maintain respective voucher files;
- Record all receipts, journal vouchers, debt notes and petty cash summary and maintain respective files containing those documents;
- Maintain Fixed Assets Register;
- Prepare bank reconciliation;
- Prepare payroll;
- Examine invoices;
- Post ledger entries;
- Prepare accounts up to trial balances/list of balances;
- Collect and analyse data for building up into reports;
- Perform any other duties as the accountant may determine.
