1. Job Purpose

• Provide expertise in developing, updating and utilising public transport planning model using state of the art software such as VISUM. This involves calibrating & analysing public transport service demand model forecasts to cater to the Dubai Bus Master Plan,
• Undertake routine and periodic simulation runs to estimate demand and operational parameters to assist the strategic network decision making as well as the operational service improvements
• Advise, propose solutions, monitor and report on problem areas, risks, issues and obstacles on the progress of Project Teams working towards implementation of the Dubai Bus Master Plan, and specifically the increased Bus services scheduled for 09/09/09.

3. Key Results Accountabilities

• Utilise public transport planning software VISUM-put to predict bus ridership by route and origin/destination for the implementation of the Dubai Bus Master Plan as well as other interim phases or scenarios of development.
• Develop bus network coding and estimate demand origin/destination matrices
• Calibrate model parameters and check model accuracy and reasonableness (model validation)
• Periodically update and maintain the model
• Conduct periodic simulation runs to examine the impact of socio-economic, urban planning and bus service planning scenarios on expected bus ridership.
• Conduct routine simulation runs to examine the effect of service changes on bus operation performance
• Utilise the full capability of VISUM put in Service planning, Controlling, Feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses
• Develop public transport modelling manual using the VISUM-pt software
• Develop and deliver training modules on public transport planning and modelling
• Team up with the group in an efficient, effective and productive manner
• Liaise with PTA staff in an efficient, effective and productive manner
• Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as required.

b) External: Outsourced contractors and suppliers.

7. Qualifications and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Transport Planning or similar from a recognized university.
• 10+ years(desirable) in transport planning and modelling
• 5+ years experience in using transport planning software
• Previous experience overseeing an expanding network in a dynamic operating environment.
