- maintaining a register of all wholesale and retail dealers in drugs and poisons;
- carrying out inspections to ensure that medical practitioner licenses are secured and renewed regularly, statutory records are duly kept by authorized sellers of poisons, dispensed prescriptions originate from duly qualified medical practitioners, dentists and veterinary surgeons;
- monitoring the flow of drugs from the store-the pharmacy to the wards and comparing previous consumption rates to detect any anomalies and assign responsibility for them through investigations;
- monitoring the rates of consumption of Dangerous Drugs (narcotics) in all medical institutions and submitting regular reports quarterly;
- ensuring that imports and exports of drugs are accompanied with the necessary documentation from competent authorities and ensuring that drugs on the market in his area of jurisdiction are registered by the Pharmacy and Poison Board and that such registration is renewed regularly as per the regulations.
