Job Purpose:
- To lead and manage IR’s Integrated Nutrition project in Mandera,
- To represent IR in Mandera & Kenya to other NGOs, donors, UN agencies, and Governments and officials in relation to nutrition and food security issues,
- To consolidate IR’s Integrated Nutrition project in Mandera, at managerial level
- To provide strategic guidance and management to Nutrition and WATSAN staffs in Mandera,
- To strengthen IR Kenya’s nutrition programme and administrative systems in compliance with IR policy and procedures, and
- Provide technical support to IRW Africa Region with regards to Nutrition as deemed necessary.
Key Objectives
To manage the Integrated Nutrition project and maintain effective operation systems ensuring accurate financial and narrative reporting and that IR Guidelines are complied with.
Key Roles/Responsibilities

- Advice on adherence to nutrition protocols,
- Design and manage rapid assessments and nutrition surveys in coordination with other actors,
- Manage the Nutrition and WATSAN interventions at local level in close collaboration with local authority and - other partners and NGOs in the area,
- Manage and lead staff in the implementation of the ECHO funded project following the proposal submitted
- Maintain the project timeframe and budget and resources set and implement the project within the specified parameters
- Manage a budget of 455,470 Euros to run nutrition and WATSAN activities
- Monitor and ensure resource availability, deliveries, storage, transport and utilization at the site level,
- Ensure and verify the quantity of commodities, equipment and other nutrition materials received have been properly recorded as damaged or suspected to be damaged or expired,
- Supervise the efficient implementation plan of nutrition interventions, SFPs and CTC in particular,
- Represent IR in the Nutrition and WATSAN coordination meetings with INGs, NGOs and local authority,
- Participate in other need assessment missions in Mandera District,
- Ensure the proper implementation of the project plan, review achievements, constraints, lessons learnt and provide feed back on weekly and monthly basis,
- Produce verified report of Nutrition and WATSAN in coordination with the Base Programme Coordinator and Programme Manager,
- To provide leadership, through guidance and organisation as well as supervision to the sector teams of Nutrition and WATSAN to promote quality in project activities.
- Responsible for appraisal of staff who are under Nutrition and WATSAN activities and ensuring that this is processed before the end of project.
- Supervise and train nutrition personnel (SFP, CTC and CHWs),
- Put monitoring and evaluation systems in place to manage the programmes,
- Prepare ToRs, initiate and organize the hiring of external consultant/s conducting nutrition survey/surveillance and play the lead role thereby ensuring the effective and efficient performance,
- Identify any apparent issues in the nutrition activity and report immediately,
- Ensure lessons learnt in monitoring and evaluations are captured, capitalised and incorporated into IRK programmes through systematic supervision, reporting and documentation including exchange of feedback on project impact for replication and scaling up.
- Research, write and submit proposals for new food security, nutrition and WATSAN projects to complement IR Kenya’s work, and
- Perform any other related duties as required of a manager

- Proven management experience in Integrated Nutrition Projects, programme appraisal, development, and monitoring and impact assessment skills,
- Exposure to WATSAN interventions as integral part of nutritional projects
- Proven experience of drafting and writing project documents or proposals,
- Experience of INGOs and UN system in the same field,
- Good human resource development and management experience,
- Experience of develop linkages with INGOs, Government agencies, Institutional donors and other stakeholders,
- Experience in successfully developing and managing programmes funded by institutional donor, ECHO in particular,
- Experience of working in developing countries, and
- Experience of working in culturally sensitive areas thereby managing circumstances through high level of diplomacy and tact.
Desirable
- Knowledge of WATSAN, hygiene and sanitation, and
- Knowledge of Africa countries, etc.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English,
- Familiarity with contemporary nutrition survey tools and software such as SMART
- Demonstrated ability for strategic thinking and analysis,
- Strong managerial, coordination and negotiation skills with stakeholders,
- Proven technical competencies in the design of development nutrition programmes as well as sound financial skills (e.g., budgeting),
- Experience of work with a team in a multi-cultural environment in emergency and development settings and good team leadership,

- University degree or its equivalent in Nutrition and/or Public Health,
- 5 Years relevant experience in project formulation, management, policy and strategy research and formulation in related field.
Desirable
- MSc in Nutrition and/or Public Health,
- Knowledge of Millennium Development Goals and their relevance, and
- ICT.
