Finance Officer NGO Job Vacancy

Our Client is a local faith based Non Governmental Organization with operations around Kajiado North area in the suburbs of Nairobi.

The thematic area of focus is HIV/AIDS with a bias towards supporting women and children.

Finance Officer

The position is to provide efficient, timely and accurate financial management information and expertise to enable timely management decision-making and safeguard the company’s assets from loss arising from fraud or error, is charged with overall administration and operations management of the institution and support functional heads, and the Executive Director in human resource management.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the overall development of the organization’s strategic, business development, annual operating plans and the budgeting process.
  • Disseminate professional accounting standards, guidelines and information.
  • Ensure adherence to the company’s policies and procedures and compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
  • Support the business by providing sound advice on financial matters, ensuring timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, and maintenance of adequate financial records and statements.
  • Keep the management and the board adequately informed on financial performance of the organization.
  • Ensure effective financial management, timely reporting, cash flow projections, and preparation of periodic and annual final reports and accounts.
  • Manage annual audit, liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities.
  • Maintaining adequate systems of internal control.
  • Ensure that adequate systems exist for risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and audit requirements.
  • Ensure different donor reporting requirements are met in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure that the organization’s premises, office equipment and office furniture and other identifiable resources are well maintained and effectively manage the procurement process.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Possess a full CPA or equivalent qualification
  • General leadership and management training
  • Has at least three (3) years experience in a similar position.
Competencies:
  • Must be a born again practicing Christian
  • Must possess prior experience in an NGO organization
  • Good communication skills in English and Kiswahili languages
  • Should have office administration skills and a pleasant personality
  • Ability to work independently, a creative thinker and planner with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow-up on tasks and assignments on their own initiative
  • Willing to work long hours and sometimes over the weekends
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and report accurately.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Proven skills in accounting and auditing.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Good appreciation of computerized accounting packages (accounting software).
  • Computer /internet knowledge necessary
  • Self driven individual who is diligent, honest, disciplined and responsible
  • Current knowledge of donor funding programmes especially in community development projects and HIV/AIDS; and best practices
  • A love for community and a heart to serve are critical for this position
Remuneration: KES 30,000/= to 45,000/= per month.
