Teacher Trainer
Job Ref: BA/TT/2
Our client is a dynamic, new educational organisation based in Nairobi. Their start-up enterprise serves primary schools located in the most economically disadvantaged communities throughout Kenya.
Our goal is to ultimately benefit thousands of poor children throughout Africa.
We are seeking a teacher trainer on a long-term contract – to start December 1 and preferably sooner. This is a unique role and responsibility for those who thrive on building from the ground level up.
The opportunity also exists for a particularly exceptional candidate to be recruited in a senior management capacity, and/or for an outstanding employee to be given more responsibility and/or promoted internally as the organisation grows.
Central to the success of our schools are exceptionally well-trained teachers who ensure that our students are performing at their best potential and exceeding expectations. A world-class teacher training and support programme will be critical to our achieving that result.
The Teacher Trainer must be incredibly hands-on, and is initially expected to fill many of the on-the-ground roles of the whole department. Great emphasis is placed on on-going support for teachers in their classrooms and through high-quality in-service sessions and regular meetings on instruction, on formative and summative assessment, on classroom management, on home-school relations, and on other essential elements of effective schools.
You will report to and work closely with the Director of Instruction, Research & Evaluation. This is an ideal job for an entrepreneurial individual with 5+ years of training expertise, including experience designing training modules and running training sessions. Less experience as a teacher trainer is fine, provided the candidate has other related experiences especially as a primary school teacher. Over time, you will help in the building and staffing of the department. For those with leadership interests and proficiencies, there will be opportunities to oversee a team of teacher trainers as the organisation grows.
The Role: After a rigorous, demanding and condensed induction into our approach, you will:
