Advertisement for Short Term (Six Months) Service Provision Contracts

The Mount Kenya East Pilot Project for Natural Resources Management (MKEPP) is a seven-year project (July 2004 - June 2011).

The project is financed by the Government of Kenya, International Fund for Agriculture Development, Global Environmental Facility now Global Environment and Climate Change (GECC) and the Local Community.

The project is implemented through five components namely

(i) Water Resources Management,

(ii) Environmental Conservation,

(iii) Rural livelihoods,

(iv) Community Empowerment and

(v) Coordination and Management Components in the administrative districts of Mbeere, Embu, Meru South, Meru Central and Tharaka (year 2004).

The Project Lead Agency is the Ministry of Water & Irrigation (MoW&I).

The project is in its sixth year of implementation and intends to use some of the funds to contract Six (6) Individual Private Service Providers (PSP's) who will be charged with the responsibility of collecting, organizing, analyzing and presenting a wide range of project data and information among other project services in the respective Project districts as detailed in the scope of work below;

Major tasks/ scope of work

The Service Providers (SPs) will be responsible for:
  • Data and information gathering, analysing and reporting
  • Assisting in project participatory monitoring and evaluation activities
  • Relating project achievements with project objectives and overall project goal
  • Managing and profiling of District project data and information
  • Mapping project interventions and regularly updating and managing the project GIS /spatial database
  • Updating of project monitoring registers and the project Financial Monitoring and Reporting System (FMRS)
  • Addressing component specific data and information requirements
  • Any other relevant duties as may be identified and assigned by the District Project Coordinators and the Project manager
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Must possess degree in any of the following:- Social Sciences, Geography, Community Development, Environmental Studies or any other relevant natural resources related degree from recognized institutions
  • Must have computer applications skills especially ability to effectively use MS Office suite (MS Word, Excel, MS Access, Desktop publishing)
  • Ability to conduct data analysis using SPSS or any other data analysis software
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and be able to build effective relationships with project staff, and more importantly the local community as well as exhibiting professionalism and diligence in their work
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and deliver results on time
  • Effective communication and workshop facilitation skills
  • Excellent skills in report writing/editing of different project reports and documents
  • Must be Kenyan citizens of not more than 35 years of age at the time of applying
Added Advantages
  • Recruitment preference will be given to appropriate persons from the respective project districts
  • Basic understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) and effective use of Global Positioning System (GPS) to capture, store, analyse and present spatial data and information
  • Demonstrated skills in project cycle management
  • Training and experience in monitoring and evaluation as well as social science research
  • Graduates with some experience working in a development project / organization or at least 3 months continuous attachment
Contract Duration and Duty station

The Service Providers will be contracted for a duration of six (6) months, after which, the project will review the need for extension.

The successful candidates will be based at Embu, Chuka (to cover Meru South and Maara), Nkubu (to cover Meru Central and Imenti South), Meru Town, Marimanti and Siakago under the direct supervision of the District Project Coordinators.
