Background / General description:

The Organization: This appointment is for a period of 24 months with the opportunity to be extended for a further 2 years depending on performance.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, supports economic growth by promoting private sector investment in its developing member countries through long-term financing and advisory services.

The Climate Change Investment Program for Africa (CIPA) is essentially a sustainable energy financing (SEF) program. IFC executes major sustainable energy financing donor-funded technical assistance programs to the private sector globally

The objectives of these programs are to promote direct investment in the private sector, build local businesses and financial intermediaries, and help improve the business enabling environment.

The Program: IFC Africa s Sustainable Energy Finance Program is a 4 year program that will be launched in November 2009 by the International Finance Corporation to stimulate investment in cleaner production, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects by supporting financial institutions build this business.

The program combines IFC s two lines of business, advisory services and investment services to catalyze and grow sustainable energy financing markets.

Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Advise Partner FIs on strategy in energy efficiency finance and develop new financial product(s) and /or new project structures based on the needs of the market and partner FIs;
  • Build and manage relationships with senior management, branch managers and credit officers of partner financial institutions;
  • Provide bank clients with operational support in implementing the SEF strategy and product and engage program staff or external consultants to perform related tasks;
  • Coordinate bank client external events, workshops and marketing campaigns related to the SEF product
  • Develop bank training material and support the program team in development of materials and other relevant reference materials attuned to the financial institutions needs;
  • Support the investment team with business development, deal processing and portfolio management as required;
  • Assist the Program Manager in fulfilling reporting requirements;
  • Represent the program in seminars and conferences (in banks, industry fairs, thematic seminars);
  • Contribute to corporate knowledge base and share effective approaches with team and other IFC units;
  • Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
  • Masters degree in finance, or related field, and 5 years of banking experience;
  • Good analytical and financial modeling skills;
  • Self starter with strong managerial, organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely for expert and non-expert audiences;
  • Experience of communicating with board level management;
  • Results-oriented approach with demonstrated history of accomplishments;
  • Comfortable with dealing with credit and financing issues;
  • Excellent written and spoken English. French and/ or Portuguese is considered an advantage.
