SALARY; KSH250,000 - KSHS337,000 GROSS PER MONTH FOR NATIONAL STAFF

£21,559 - £28,256 NET PER ANNUM + ALLOWANCES FOR CANDIDATES OUTSIDE THE NATIONAL CONTEXT

Oxfam GB has been operating in Somalia from the late 1960s, supporting a number of communities in public health, disaster recovery, food security and pastoral livelihoods. Oxfam has an operational office in Somaliland and works through partners in South Central Somalia.

In strengthening Advocacy work in Somalia, Oxfam GB is recruiting a Policy and Advocacy Advisor to support the development and delivery of Somalia advocacy and media strategy through close consultation and coordination with Country Director, programme team and Oxfam International policy lead for Somalia.

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to lead on developing and implementing an advocacy strategy, policy analysis and messages through close consultation and coordination with all key stakeholders namely Somalia Country Team, Oxfam GB's regional and global advisors, Oxfam affiliates and international offices as well as appropriate civil society partners. Pivotal to the role is networking and investing in relationships in a downward advocacy in Somalia and program locations to continually inform, challenge, and improve our advocacy messages and tactics. Representation and lobbying with diverse stakeholders when required will be an exciting and challenging facet of your role. Finally, in coordination with the Somalia Country Director and the Humanitarian Programme Coordinator, you will serve as a focal point on Somalia advocacy for Oxfam affiliates and Oxfam International advocacy office.

The Person

To be successful in this role you will have substantial and demonstrable experience in emergency and development work with a demonstrated understanding of context, dilemmas, challenges and ways of working as well as a track record of advocacy work. You will be a natural networker and negotiator coupled with experience in influencing governments, donors, and other organisations through representation and/or advocacy, especially UN bodies and/or the African Union (AU). You will have good context analysis skills, be a strategic thinker and culturally sensitive with excellent English communication skills, (both written and oral fluency) A university education in political science, international law, international development, communications or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
