The Position
The Aga Khan Foundation (East Africa) is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Director, NGO Resource Centre (NGORC), based in Zanzibar with potential relocation to Dar es Salaam. Established in 1996, NGORC is a training and capacity building organisation for the civil society sector with a specific focus on strengthening Community-Based Organisations. NGORC is taking a leadership role in the development of a strong civil society in Tanzania, including through spearheading the development of widely agreed standards for self assessment and through initiatives which aim to improve the effectiveness of civil society-government partnerships.
Reporting to AKF's Regional Programme Officer for Civil Society, the Director is responsible for overall programme, administrative, fiscal and grant management of NGORC. In addition, the Director is responsible for ensuring quality, impact, cost effectiveness and efficiency of the Centre.
Key Responsibilities include:
Providing leadership and strategic vision to NGORCFacilitating the expansion of NGORC into mainland Tanzania and East AfricaOversight and management of the Centre's activitiesFinancial oversight, grant management, and ensuring compliance with donor and AKF regulations, procedures and accounting softwareOverseeing monitoring and evaluation of the Centre's activitiesSupervision of Centre staff including recruitment, orientation, supervision, mentoring and staff capacity developmentOverall administrative management of the Centre
Representing the Centre to relevant local authorities and organisations and supporting AKF in policy engagement and resource mobilisationReporting and maintaining good working relationships with donors, government, partner agencies and other Civil Society Organisations
The Requirements
A Master's degree in a field relevant to development and civil societyA minimum of 5 years experience leading a development organisation or initiative in East AfricaAn in-depth understanding of the civil society sector in East Africa, including its challenges and opportunitiesAbility to work with multiple civil society and government partners in a manner which inspires trustFluency in English and KiswahiliExcellent oral and written communication skills along with ability to prepare quality reports for a variety of audiencesExperience in accounting in relation to project management and financial reporting ' experience in SCALA will be considered an added advantageExcellent inter-personal skills to engage productively within and outside the office in a cross-cultural, inter-disciplinary environmentExcellent time management skills and high self-motivation and ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks, demands and deadlines with a positive and constructive attitude under minimal supervisionExcellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience working in Zanzibar will be considered as an added advantageInterested candidates should submit a cover letter stating salary expectation, CV and the names and contact information of three professional referees.
