The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights is an independent National Human Rights Institution established in 2003 through the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act. It is the State's lead agency in the promotion and protection of human rights.
The Commission delivers its human rights mandate through its various strategies and activities relating to policy research and advocacy, human rights education, investigating human rights violations and monitoring compliance of human rights standards and practices, and exercise of quasi-judicial powers as provided by the constitutive Act.
The Commission is inviting applications for the following position:
Human Rights Officer II
Reports to: Head of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Programme
Purpose: 'To assist the Commission achieve its objective of increasing opportunities for the realisation of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
Location: Head Office, with occasional field travel
Duration: One year contract
Key duties and responsibilities
- To coordinate logistics for internal and external activities such as conferences and workshops
- Establish sustainable networks relevant for the delivery of assigned responsibilities
- Manage project teams
- Prepare program activity reports
- Carry out basic research
- Analyse and compile technical reports
- compile updates on emerging development in the Program area
- A Bachelors Degree in a Social Science. You will have an added advantage if your degree is in Public Policy, Economics. Anthropology or Political Science. A diploma in any of the fields is desirable.
- Minimum of one year work experience in project management in a busy human rights/social justice institution
- Good understanding of human rights
- Excellent organisational and analytical skills. Proof of this will be required
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills
- Demonstrable commitment to social justice
