The Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) with assistance from the Low Income Countries Under Stress (LICUS) Trust Fund, under the Rapid Impact Public Finance Management Project (RIPFM) of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP), is implementing a programme for strengthening public financial management in the government.
Part of this programme is aimed at strengthening capacity in the Directorate of Accounts to undertake its functions. This among other initiatives involves building capacity in terms of skills acquisition for the staff in the Directorate.
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning is now inviting applications from suitably qualified Sudanese graduates to fill positions of trainee accountants in the Directorate of Accounts.
Successful candidates will study part-time towards an internationally accredited accountancy qualification while working part-time at MoFEP. Upon completion of the training, the trained accountants may be posted to work with MoFEP or any other Ministry/Agency of the Government of Southern Sudan.

Job Description
Successful candidates for this position will be expected to pursue a career in accountancy with the government with opportunities for future promotion depending on performance.
Successful applicants will be engaged in transaction processing, record keeping, preparation of financial reports and the safe custody of financial documents as per laid down rules and regulations enshrined in the Laws of Southern Sudan.
Duties of successful candidates will include but not be limited to:
- Capturing financial transactions of government into the Financial Management Information System
- Preparation of bank reconciliation statements for bank accounts maintained by the Ministry/Government Agency.
- Maintenance of ledgers and other accounting records as will be required by the regulations and procedures of government
- Reconciliation of the ledgers to primary records
- Preparation of expenditure reports to the spending agencies.
- Liaison with Internal and External Auditors during performance of their functions.
- Performance of other related duties as assigned from time to time.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Pre-requisite skills and knowledge:
- Good communication skills in English language, both oral and written
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel software.
- Knowledge of the principles, procedures and practices of accounting.
- General knowledge of the laws, regulations and other principles that guide financial management.

- Willingness to pursue and complete a professional accountancy qualification in the shortest possible time
Qualifications and Experience
In addition to the skills mentioned above, the applicant MUST be a Sudanese National not older than 32 years of age and with either A bachelors degree (graduate) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related disciplines from an accredited university

At least Part 2 of CPA, ACCA or an equivalent professional qualification or full Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification.
