FIELD ADVISOR COFFEE/ WET MILLS (4 POSITIONS: MBINGA, MBEYA, MOSHI) - TechnoServe

TechnoServe, Inc. is an international non-profit economic development organization founded in 1968. Its mission is to help entrepreneurial men and women in poor areas of the developing "'(orld to build businesses that create' income, opportunity and economic growth for their families, communities and countries.
TechnoServe has launched a four year East Africa Coffee Initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This initiative will focus on helping approximately 180,000 small-holders improve their incomes by improving the quality of the coffee they produce, increasing its production and linking it to markets.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
• Increase coffee producer incomes by strengthening business practices of clients
• Support the implementation of strategies that will enable clients to achieve sustainable increases in coffee quality and yields
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support the development of coffee wet-mills through TechnoServe's approach:
o Identify entrepreneurs cooperative formation/strengthening who have the potential to profitably operate a wet mill and who are willing to invest in the purchase cost
o Develop business plans and securing finance
o Supervise construction and execute on pre-season trainings on topics such as book-keeping, leadership and operations,
o Provide operational support to the wet mills during the harvest through weekly visits to each group
o Finalize end of season results
• Maintain good relations with farmers and other TNS partners
• Produce weekly reports for management
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Field Advisor Coffee.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Preferably Graduate in Agricultural Economics or related field (minimum 3 years working experience) or Diploma in Agriculture with 5 years experience preferably in Coffee Industry.
• Strong knowledge on logistics and geography of coffee growing regions in Tanzania
• Experience of working to strict time-guidelines
• Entrepreneurial
• Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills
• English oral & written presentation skills
• Computer literacy
• Good working knowledge of Tanzania's economic development
• Gender sensitivity.
• Willingness to travel domestically when necessary
