Operations Director
Job purpose
- We are looking for an Operations Director who will ensure the effective and efficient coordination of operations systems, processes and activities so that all Save the Children UK Kenya programmes are delivered on time according to organisational strategy, donor requirements and within allocated budgets
- As part of the core Senior Management Team you will contribute to the development and review of the country strategic direction and policy formulation
- You will also play a key role in the expansion of Save the Children programmes in Kenya to increase impact and enable positive change for children
Job Accountabilities include
- Lead, manage and motivate Operations Staff (Logistics, Security and Field Office Managers) to perform highly
- Coordinate and ensure integrated logistics, finance and grants and technical advisory support to field offices/programmes
- In liaison with SMT, lead in developing a proposal development system and coordinate the preparation, review and finalisation of donor proposals ensuring inclusion of technical, human, logistical and financial resources to efficiently and effectively deliver on the set objectives
- Oversee the institution of effective finance and grants management systems
- Oversee effective functioning of logistics systems to procure, store and distribute stock, supplies and services for timely delivery of project objectives
- Represent the principles and work of Save the Children UK to donors, United Nations, NGOs, government, etc

- A degree in related discipline with a substantial number of years experience in operations management including experience of overseeing or directing security management within insecure environments
- Experience in delivering one or more Save the Children UK sectors (health, education, child protection, nutrition, food security or livelihoods) within complex environments and in providing effective operational support in emergency responses
- In depth knowledge and experience of Logistics systems and requirements in a multi-field office, multi-programme setting.
- Excellent coordination, negotiation and management skills
- Experience of working with key donors
- Proven experience of budget development and management
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Fluent in English and Swahili
- Understanding of and commitment to adhere to and promote Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including our Child Safeguarding and other global policies

- A formal security qualification or advanced security management training with substantial practical field experience in security management in a leadership role
- Work experience in insecure/hostile environments
- Comprehensive knowledge of the context and challenges of operating within the Horn of Africa and ability to work within a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic team
- Experience and knowledge of personnel and organisation security issues, threat/risk assessment, security management and security awareness in an insecure environment
- Experience of incident reporting, mapping, intelligence collation and analysis, set up and execution of an incident warning system and compilation of security reports and assessments
- Experience in training and coaching national and international staff in safety and security
- Technical competency and training experience in field based communications systems and competent in using computer systems
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Swahili
