Our client is now seeking to recruit two dynamic individuals to fill the positions of Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Financial Controller – Kenya.

The Group Chief Financial Officer

The position will be responsible for providing financial leadership to manage the Group in the best interest of its stakeholders and to continuously drive the business to excellence.

Reporting to the CEO, this is a senior position and calls for a high level of maturity and ability to effectively interact and operate at Board level in addressing the organisation’s strategic challenges.

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Ensuring timely and accurate reporting to lenders; equity investors and other stake holders.
  • Leading the tactical financial, long-range planning for the organisation.
  • Ensuring the development of the annual operating plan including business plans, operational requirements, organisational structure, staffing and budgets that support the long-range plan.
  • Implementation of the annual operating plan as well as directing and monitoring the activities and resources of the organisation, consistent with the strategic direction, financial limits and operating objectives.
  • Ensuring that the organisation maintains an appropriate capital structure to support its annual operating and long-range plan.
  • Ensuring sufficient liquidity to implement the organisation business plans.
  • Reviewing financial evaluation of acquisitions recommended for review by the Board of Directors of the organisation.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting to shareholders, investors, lenders and other stakeholders.
  • Ensuring financial reporting systems provide reliable and accurate financial and operating information.
  • Developing and implementing internal controls for the organistion.
  • Developing and implementing disclosure controls and procedures through appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements for the organisation’s financial information, reporting, disclosure requirements and internal control over financial reporting.
The successful candidate will have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • An MBA degree from a leading international business school is highly desired.
  • A minimum of 10 years senior financial management experience with treasury, financial reporting and control, capital-raising, and financial planning responsibilities.
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions, and integration of acquired businesses is a major asset.
  • Professional accounting qualification (CPA (K) or ACCA).
  • Prior work experience in a multicultural environment.
Financial Controller

Reporting to the Group Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for ensuring sound operational plans, timely production of financial statements, reports and analysis and adherence to the plan figures for all costs.

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Monthly internal reporting for entities to the management and shareholders, including key business performance indicators, and analysis of variances against plan and last year.
  • Strategic development and planning of the Kenyan business.
  • Annual financial reporting in liaison with external auditors.
  • Treasury and working capital management, including credit control, cash management, inventory and supply chain management.
  • Ensuring compliance with all tax, company secretarial and regulatory requirements.
  • Budget preparation and reporting.
  • Maintenance of effective internal control systems and development of internal control procedures.
  • Developing and maintaining Information systems and controls.
  • Managing and developing finance department staff.
  • Managing relationships with local banks.
The successful candidate will have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • An MBA would be an added advantage.
  • CPA (K) or ACCA qualification.
  • Minimum of five years experience in similar position with decision making responsibilities.
  • Strong commercial knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Kenyan business environment.
  • Practical experience in managing and motivating people.
  • Sound IT application skills.
