As a result of expansion in its Supply Chain function, the company seeks to discuss the following positions with suitably qualified candidates all of whom must be individuals of high integrity:
Civil Works Manager
Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain, the incumbent will be expected to be a natural team leader, with the relevant technical skill, experience, energy and dexterity to provide a seamless and efficient rail operation service and other civil engineering expertise across a network covering 150 Kms between the plant in Magadi and Konza where the line joins the national rail to Mombasa.
He/She will also be responsible for maintaining internal and external road networks serving the company, the local community & the public, supply and maintenance of water from a source 40 Kms from the plant and downstream distribution to the plant, township and the local community.

- Inspection, repair, maintenance and up-grading of the railway line between Magadi and Konza to ensure high safety standards, availability and reliability. The infrastructure includes train crossing loops, train marshaling yards, culverts, bridges and viaducts.
- Overall responsibility for management and supervision of all civil works undertaken by the Company, including road maintenance, water supply, sanitation and community CSR projects.
- Project management including supervision of third party civil contractors.
- Monitoring and control of Fixed costs and capital expenditure
- Developing and retaining talent of supports through continuous performance appraisal and feedback
Experience & Background Required:
- Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in railway track design, construction and maintenance.
- Experience in general civil works including construction, water supply and road maintenance.
- Registration by The Engineers Registration Board, training in safety and/or Membership of a Professional body will be an added advantage.
- Good planning and coordination skills.
- Experience in management of contracts.
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
Rail Operations & Logistics Manager
This position reports to the General Manager Rail Operations.
The successful candidate will be a reliable and effective negotiator with capacity to network beyond the immediate Magadi community and demonstrate personal integrity as well as an understanding of the link between own area of operation and cost effectiveness.

Key accountabilities will include:
- Transportation of products from Magadi to various destinations in East Africa both by rail and road.
- Warehousing, Packing, loading and distribution of soda ash, salt and related products at Magadi, Kajiado and other locations where the Company has Warehouse facilities (including inventory management).
- Management of all Train Operations including the following:
- Train shunting operations at Magadi, Kajiado and Mombasa.
- Running of mainline trains between Magadi and Konza.
- Partnering with Rift Valley Railways to ensure efficient & incident free movement of company goods by rail.
- Transportation of inbound Magadi Soda Company goods to Kajiado and Magadi. Management of road transport services for movement of company products to the local/regional market.
- Ensuring optimum utilization of locomotives and wagons.
- Responsible for operational strategies to meet Production, Sales and Customer requirements.
- Coordination with key supply chain stakeholders (Manufacturing team, Mombasa & Kajiado Operations teams and RVR) to ensure smooth operations.
- Facilitation of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities that require railway transport services.
- Developing and retaining talent of supports through continuous performance appraisal and feedback
The successful candidate is likely to be of the following background:
- Holder of a university degree from a reputable institution.
- Seven (7) years experience in Logistics, three of which must have been at managerial level.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in Train Operations / Rail Transport Logistics.
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent team working and negotiating skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- Training in Rail Transport Safety will be an added advantage.
- A high level of personal integrity
Senior Buyer
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing controls and coordinating material sourcing functions to ensure effective & responsive procurement, quality control and accountability to support uninterrupted operations and cost effectiveness.
The role will be expected to carry out efficient planning and coordination of procurement of strategic materials and services; strategic sourcing analysis; procurement spend monitoring and control to meet internal customers needs; supplier evaluation, selection and performance appraisal (SESPA) and post contract/project reviews.
Other areas of principal accountability will include:
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing controls and coordinating material sourcing functions to ensure effective & responsive procurement, quality control and accountability to support uninterrupted operations and cost effectiveness.
The role will be expected to carry out efficient planning and coordination of procurement of strategic materials and services; strategic sourcing analysis; procurement spend monitoring and control to meet internal customers needs; supplier evaluation, selection and performance appraisal (SESPA) and post contract/project reviews.
Other areas of principal accountability will include:
- Planning, coordinating and executing of efficient procurement processes
- Ensuring deliverables are met e.g. inventory levels, contract performance updates, etc
- Liaising with users to enhance internal customer service and quality control
- Assisting the Procurement Manager in regard to procurement planning, evaluation/approval of tenders/quotations and management of contracts
- Developing and retaining talent of supports through continuous performance appraisal and feedback
Person Specification:
The incumbent will be a university graduate with well developed analytical and communication skills.
In addition the candidate should possess a professional diploma in purchasing and supply management from a recognized professional body.
He/She will have 5 – 7 years relevant experience in a busy procurement environment and demonstrate the following:
