The Africa Fair Trade Network (AFN) is a Continental not for profit, non governmental organization established by Fairtrade certified producer organizations in Africa with its headquarters in Moshi Tanzania.
AFN aims to strengthen communication among members for a stronger voice to enhance fair and equitable trade opportunities for African producers and to be regarded as equal partners without discrimination on the basis of religion, ethnicity or gender.
AFN has regional networks in South, East and West Africa (and North Africa - is being established) to coordinate and initiate programmes at the regional level.
The East Africa Fairtrade Network wishes to recruit a highly competent, proactive and self driven person to fill in the East Africa Regional Coordinator position.

Key tasks include:
- Implement AFN/EAFN strategic plan and managing EAFN programmes and activities in the region in liaison with the AFN Executive Director
- Assist in project development and implementation
- Ensure efficient programme and accounting systems at the regional level
- Oversees the design, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, activities and services to members.
- Facilitating local (country/ product) partnerships to increase access to effective technical and financial support to increase market access for producers.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and producer participation in AFN and FTL as well as relevant regional trade debates that have impact on producer activities.
- Represent EAFN whenever delegated to do so
- Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by the regional board
Qualities of the Ideal candidate Required
- Graduate level degree in Agricultural, Economics, Rural development or Development studies.
- At least 3 years of work experience with management experience
- Excellent written and spoken English and some working knowledge of major languages spoken in the region will be an advantage.
- Experience in the Eastern African region
- Must be able to communicate effectively in agricultural and development issues
- Able to handle varied, demanding and complex tasks
- Willingness to travel in very basic conditions and at short notices
- Excellent computer skills
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent planning skills
- A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work with the ability to be part of a team
- An organized and methodical approach to work
- Able to juggle competing priorities to tight deadlines
Desired
- Work experience in grassroots work with farmer organizations
- Office management experience
- Cross cultural experience
- Business development experience and /or development work experience
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- certification schemes
- standards and standard setting
The candidate will be offered a 2 years contract renewable on mutual consent
