Regional Director for East, Central and the Horn of Africa (ECA): Nairobi, Kenya
The Academy for Educational Development (AED), an international not-for-profit organization, working in education and training, health and nutrition, democracy and governance, and economic development seeks to recruit for the position of Regional Director for its regional office for East and Central Africa based in Nairobi.
The ECA Regional Director is responsible for leading the development of AED regional office for East, Central, and the Horn of Africa.
Working to create a strong regional presence for AED, the Regional Director builds relationships with and serves as the organizational focal point for the donor community, foundations, and corporations active in the region.
He/She forges connections with local, national, and regional partners and with skilled professionals in the region, with an eye toward continued future collaboration.
The Regional Director also assists AED programs with national and regional coordination and helps to establish and promote unified policies and procedures for all Kenya-based AED programs.
He/She represents AED and its programs at professional and other meeting's in or related to the region.

Specifically, the Regional Director performs the following tasks:
- Serves as the representative for AED in the region with donors, governments, professional organizations and NGOs.
- Manages the AED regional office based in Nairobi, Kenya. Oversees current programmes and assist the programmes with national and regional coordination.
- Oversees human and financial resources, ensuring that AED contracts and grants respond to AED policies and procedures and donor requirements.
- Develops and implements a five-year strategic development plan for AED in the region.
- Evaluates opportunities for partnerships in East, Central, and the Horn of Africa and advises AED on program development opportunities in the region.
Education and Experience:
- Masters degree or higher in one of the following related fields: Health, Education, Nutrition, Development, Population, Marketing, and/or Communication.
- 7-10 years in senior management of relevant programmes in education, health, HIV/AIDS, training and technical assistance and other related areas for an international organization.
- Experience managing complex programmes including the management r budgets, staff, funding and strategic planning.
- An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the political, economic and social context in East, Central, and the Horn of Africa, as well as experience working with Governments, civil society organisations, professional organizations, businesses, media and/or NGOs in other countries in the region
- Project design and significant management experience.
- Experience in managing and writing proposals.
- Knowledge of and experience with current regional and international donor programmes.
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated abilities in writing reports.
- Demonstrated abilities in leadership and organization.
- Facilitation, negotiation and conflict management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of MS Windows and internet.
