Reporting Line: Principal Geologist

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The primary purpose of the Senior Geologist is to work closely with the Principal Geologist(s) to define targets and plan exploration programmes and to then lead the field team of project and Junior Geologists and Technicians to the discovery of new gold deposits that will have a significant impact on the company's earnings and growth, as safely, quickly, cheaply and as frequently as possible whilst minimizing environmental impact. He will also be responsible for all the project and company day to day administration systems as per SEAL laid procedures.
S/he will also be responsible for the day to day field and office management • of projects and exploration programmes within Tanzania, Africa both on a technical and administrative level.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Adhering to regulatory requirements, policies, standards, procedures and work instructions.
Reporting of non-compliances, risks or losses.
Taking of corrective action to prevent injury, incident or detrimental impact to the environment.
• Maintain a professional work environment and encourage technical excellence from projecVcontract geologists and field assistants.
• Effectively manage the execution of approved exploration programmes, with a particular focus on diamond and RC drilling.
• Ensure that company resources (people, equipment and money) are used in a timely, focused and effective manner at all times.
• Supervise and coach projecVcontract geologists in the effective collection and interpretation of exploration data. Take on the direct supervision of coaching new geology graduates employees. :
• Review project progress on a regular basis, assisting in the preparation ' of and critically reviewing programmes presented by project geologists.
• Comply with all statutorj and reporting requirements within the region.
• Ensure that all exploration programmes are compliant with statutory requirements such as Instrument 43-101 and meet QNQC standards
• Maintain professional relationships with local communities so as to ensure SEAL exploration activities create minimum impact.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Initiate and maintain systems and procedures to ensure all geological functions are carried out safely and productively.
• Ensure at all times that all field personnel comply with the highest possible EH&S standards.
• Assist with the preparation of exploration programmes and budgets and effectively manage the execution of these programmes within the outlined budgets. Budget ranging from $500K to $ 8million depending on program.
• Present program and budget proposals to peers and managers as required.
• Co-ordinate the compilation of exploration results and review project progress for reporting to the Principal Geologist / Exploration Manager.
• Write and compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports to Government departments, option holders and JV partners as required.
• Monitor and correct monthly account statements.
• Supervise external contractors and ensure activities are in compliance with BEAL, community and environmental standards.
• Assist with the monitoring of competitor activities in the district and the identification of project generation/acquisition opportunities.
• Supervise and coach immediate staff in the effective utilisation of the Company's resources (people, equipment and money) leading to more efficient and cost-effective allocation of these resources.
• Look after purchases from raising orders and purchases of quality products at reasonable price. Follow up of all invoicing, delivery and camp inventory and uses as per SOX compliance.
• Assist in the writing and compilation of the monthly, quarterly and annual reports to Government departments, option holders and JV partners, as required.
• To provide & maintain high quality GIS services for all exploration projects while keeping costs to a minimum.
• To produce high quality graphics for BEAL budget presentations/conferences.
• Maintain a professional work environment and encourage technical excellence from all support, drafting and GIS personnel within African Exploration group.
• Train and coach BEAL staff in order that the GIS understanding is appreciated.
• Maintain GIS standards throughout BEAL Exploration groups.
• Any other duties as required by the Company or Regional Manager.
Education:
• Bachelor of Science (Geology) with Honours (preferred). A further advanced degree favourable.
• Continued professional development and technical training.
EXPERIENCE, SKillS & ABiliTIES:
• Above 7 years relevant experience.
• Good communication and administration skills.
• Self motivation, leadership and management skills.
• Fluency in the Swahili and English languages
• Well developed skills in Geological modelling and GIS software packages (Vulcan, Micromine, ArcGIS etc)
• Extensive experience in greenfields and brownfields drilling programmes .
