Habitat Forum Tanzania (HAFOTA) is a Non Government, not for profit making organisation established under Trustees Incorporation Ordinance 1956. It was established under Trustee Deed in 2002. The aim is to engage the Government at its various levels to take on board the Habitat Agenda by creating an enabling environment whereby adequate and affordable shelter is available for all.

The incumbent will be responsible for strategic development and growth of HAFOTA, lobbying, policy advocacy, planning, marketing, networking, fund-raising, overall management and performance of Secretariat staff.



Responsibilities:

1. Serve as the Coordinator of HAFOTA, steering the organisations strategic direction, programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance

2. Be responsible for nurturing participative relationships and maintaining strategic alliances with urban and rural poor communities, CBOs, civil society institutions, local authorities, government departments, private sector institutions, professional associations and, international organizations working with issues of land, adequate housing and habitat.

3. Overall financial management and accountability, including development of annual budgets and work plans.

4. Plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate fund raising programmes, activities, and campaigns as directed by the Steering Committee. .

5. Insure that HAFOTA resources are well utilised for the benefit of the organisation

6. Recruit and manage staff and ensure that planned activities are performed timely

7. Maintain an information and member database

8. Perform any other duties deemed necessary from time to time as assigned by the Steering Committee.



Desirable Qualities and Experience:

1 . A minimum Social Sciences Bachelor's Degree - preferably in Development Studies, Policy Analysis and development, Rural and Urban development, Housing studies.

2. Demonstrate experience, in developmental issues, management of N60s, lobbying and organising campaigns.

3. At least three years experience in the areas related. to the responsibilities.

4. Demonstrable ability to develop and maintain relationships with current and potential partners, network members, and communities.

5. Excellent negotiation and communication skills and presentation skills required to build relationships with current and potential partners, ability to produce and sell funding proposals and reports.

6. Strong analytical skills

7. Knowledge of land and housing related issues as they pertain to the poor would be a distinct advantage.

8. Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili

9. IT literacy and competency

10. Meticulous attention to detail.

11. Ability to understand, generate and manage budgets and plans
