The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational, development agency promoting creative and effective solutions to problems that impede social and economic development. AKF (East Africa) has initiated a multi-input area development programme - the Coastal Rural Support Programme, Tanzania (CRSP,T) in southern Tanzania. The programme's overall goal is to improve the livelihoods of rural communities in Mtwara and Lindi Regions. A key element of CRSP,T is aimed at supporting small scale farmers to improve agricultural productivity and marketing. The Senior Agronomist shall be responsible for driving relevant CRSP,T interventions in particular working closely with field-based staff who provide direct support to local farmers. The successful candidate will be based in Lindi or Mtwara town with regular travel around the two Regions. AKF is seeking qualified and motivated candidates with the following qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's Degree in Agriculture or relevant area of study and a minimum of 5 years experience or a Bachelor's Degree with 7 years of relevant experience; 5-7 years relevant experience working on similar initiatives with either rice or oil seed production; a general knowledge in other crops is desirable;
Considerable experience in promoting participatory techniques with farmer groups to stimulate field based innovation and learning exchanges;
Familiarity with market-based approaches to development and knowled~e of value chain analysis;
Experience managing field staff and working in rural communities;
A self-motivated individual who can work under minimum supervision; Excellent communication skills in written and oral English language is required;
