Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) was established by the Act of Parliament NO.6 of 1980 to promote, conduct, supervise, and co-ordinate fisheries research in Tanzania. The Institute is governed by the Board of Directors. This Institute is comprised of four Centres and one Substation: Mwanza Centre and Sota Substation on Lake Victoria, Kigoma Centre on Lake Tanganyika, Kyela Centre on Lake Nyasa (Malawi) and Oar es Salaam Centre on the Indian Ocean. The Institute Headquarters is located at Kunduchi in Dar es Salaam.

c) Qualification and experience
Possession of full Professional Qualification: Certified Public Accountant )S (Tanzania) [CPA (T)], Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. (ACCA), Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent, and must be registered by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors Tanzania (NBAA) as Authorised Accountant/Auditor. He/She must be computer literate. Working 'J experience of at least seven (7) years of as Accountant in a reputable Organization, three (3) of which must be in senior position. Must have the ability to provide dynamic leadership to the Organization/Institute.
d) Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• The Chief Accountant shall be the chief advisor of the Director of Finance & Administration in all financial and supplies .matters.
• Head of the Department responsible for Financial/Accounting and Supplies matters of the Institute. In this regard, he/she shall inter-alia, be in charge of:-
• Shall be responsible for the day to day Finance. and Accounting functions of the Institute and will ensure that the approved accounting system of the Institute and will ensure that the approved accounting system of the Institute along with other laid down financial procedures are followed.
• Shall ensure that the Director of Finance & Administration is supplied with up to date information necessary for discharging his responsibilities relating to financial matters.
• Shall be responsible for keeping the Director of Finance & Administration up to date in regards to the movement of the finances of the Institute by supplying such information and at such frequency as the Director may direct.
• Shall ensure that books of accounts of the Institute are properly maintained and final accounts are timely extracted for statutory audit.
• Shall ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial management information reports required by the Management and external users.
• Shall ensure the availability of ad-hoc financial and Management Information required by Management and external bodies.
• Shall provide financial expertise to the Institute.
• Shall check/verify, on ad hoc basis, the payments to ensure that they are backed by proper and authentic supporting documents.
• Shall prepare TAFIRI'S Master Budget in cooperation with other departmental heads.
• Shall oversee the functions of the supplies section.
• Shall be liable for exercising care and skill in the course of executing his/her responsibilities and may be taken responsible for mistakes and/or losses arising from his/her carelessness and/or negligence.
• May delegate any of the responsibilities under him to any person in his/her Department, but shall still be liable for the action of such persons.
• Shall perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Finance & Administration and/or Director General.
