Web Designer - Tanzania

Challenges Worldwide has an immediate volunteer vacancy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This is an exciting and dynamic role which will allow you to develop a range of new skills and experience in a demanding position whilst also making a positive difference to the local community.

Background to organisation

This role is based with an organization based in Dar es Salaam. It was founded and registered in 2006 to address the fact that existing activities and programmes for children which are carried out in Tanzania are inadequate given the scale and complexity of children’s problems in the country.

They work with children especially young girls who have been affected or are at risk of child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) with the accompanied violence. Although they are based in Dar es Salaam, their intervention programmes have been conducted in Mwanza and Mara regions where child marriage and FGM are prevalent.

The organisation is aware that knowledge of their work is lacking in the wider community and as a result would like to improve communications, so that more people are aware of the organization and its work. The volunteer from Challenges Worldwide will assist in achieving this goal. Specifically the work done by the volunteer will increase the organization credibility particularly to our potential funders and stakeholders particularly at the grassroots level. The volunteer’s work will raise the voice of the young girls. In turn, it will increase the protection of their rights.

Purpose of Assignment
To disseminate the organisation’s work including researches and publications, trainings and capacity building, service delivery, and fundraising to various stakeholders via website design, a printed newsletter, and a printed brochure.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Web designing and maintenances.
1.1 Design the website to be used by the organisation.
1.2 Uploading all necessary information to the website, including reports and other works done by the organisation.
1.3 Design the mechanism of tracking website visitors and their different comments concerning the sufficiency of the information obtained in the website.
1.4. Briefing the organisation staff members on how to maintain the website

Functional updated the organisation website and staff members who are able to update the website in the future.
2. Maintaining the organisation’s newsletter and the child marriage blog.2.1 Designing the newsletters and child marriage blog.
2.2 Publishing various issues on child marriage and FGM on the blog.
2.3 Designing a mechanism which can be used by the organisation to track feedback and contributions from our readers.
Updated organisation information to stakeholders through newsletters and child marriage blogs.

3. Designing electronic templates for other electronic publications such as the new organisation brochure
3.1. Designing the brochure and layout.
3.2. Provide Ideas on how to spread the brochure for wider use especially through electronic and web based communication.

A new brochure introducing the organisation to stakeholders which can be updated and edited by staff.
4. Any other tasks as may arise, these may be based on electronic communication issues which arise in the course of the organization’s work, or equally could be areas the volunteer identifies as needing his/her advice or assistance.

Skills and Experience Required
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Experience in web design, design and print of newsletters, maintaining blogs and designing and printing brochures;
- An interests and/or experience in children rights works;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

They ideal candidate will also be:
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently;
- Professional, flexible, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive.
