WOMEN FOR WOMEN INTERNATIONAL JOB POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Senior Business Manager, Africa Region
Area: Kigali, Rwanda, with extensive travel to the DRC, South Sudan, and Nigeria
Dept: Global Programs Unit
Status: One Year Contract 
Location: Africa Region 
Reports to: Global Programs Unit, Income Generation Staff

PURPOSE: 
Women for Women International (WfWI) provides women survivors of war, civil strife, and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable peaceful societies. We do this through a multi-layered core program of direct aid and emotional support, rights-based education, and economic development.

The organization was founded in 1993 and has benefited more than one million people, helping over 195,000 women survivors of war to move towards economic self-reliance and distributing over $79 million in direct aid and micro-credit loans. WfWI currently has offices in the US and the UK to support field operations in: Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Rwanda, Nigeria, Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

We are considering offering a one-year contract to a person who can help transition us to the next phase of our income generation (IG) work by creating concrete linkages to the private sector. The IG program currently involves vocational training (business and skills), savings promotion, product sales, and several pilots of various small businesses and commercial farming. 

The position is based in Kigali, Rwanda, with extensive travel to the DRC, South Sudan, and Nigeria.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with IG staff based in Washington DC (Economic Development Specialist, Agribusiness Specialist), as well as IG staff in the country offices in the implementation of this scope of work, reporting to the Executive Director for Global Programs. 
• Identify key private sector/industry partners in each country in the following sectors: agriculture, livestock, food processing, handcrafts and manufacturing, trade and services; 
• Negotiate and secure relationships with key partners, supporting and assisting four African country teams in the timely execution of partnership deliverables; 
• Facilitate/drive new market linkages in each country needed to scale current IG programming, including new value chain opportunities; 
• Expand employment and income opportunities for program participants and graduates through specific and actionable deals with the private sector 
• Support and assist four African country teams in the implementation of execution of current vocational/IG deliverables 
• Enhance timely and accurate reporting on above deliverables to HQ 
• Mentor/build capacity of African IG teams to execute on all aspects of IG work 

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
To be considered, you must have:
• Extensive private sector experience. 
• A client focused approach. 
• International work experience. 
• Ability to make business deals and negotiate contracts. 
• Solid experience in agribusiness preferred. A very significant portion of each country strategy is in agriculture and agribusiness. 
• Understanding of conflict environments. 
• Excellent English writing skills. 
• Strong financial management skills. 
• French, Swahili, or Kinyarwandan language skills a plus.
