International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) – Research Technician – Gender & Agriculture Job in Kenya

Our staff are also based in 7 partner institutions in other parts of Africa and in Asia and Latin America. We employ more than 700 staff from about 40 countries and are one of 15 centres sponsored by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
ILRI seeks to recruit a Research Technician-Gender & Agriculture to work within the Poverty and Gender group. The goal of the position is to work within a team to integrate gender in ILRIs research projects and programs.
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the implementation and reporting of research on gender and livestock
  • Contribute to the development of approaches and tools for integrating gender within ILRI
  • Provide support to multiple projects to integrate gender in project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of poverty, gender and equity indicators for monitoring and evaluating livestock research and development projects
  • Carry out field research and conduct literature review focused on gender and agriculture /livestock
  • Analyze the contribution of projects to improving women’s economic and social empowerment including increasing their access to assets, technologies, and services.
  • Contribute to preparation of peer-reviewed articles, research reports, briefs, and other communication products including gender checklists and research materials for website content and publication
Skills and Qualifications
  • A  Masters degree in gender and development, rural development, sociology or other relevant social science or agriculture discipline
  • Minimum 2 years relevant work experience
  • Knowledge or experience working in livestock will be an added advantage
  • A good theoretical and practical understanding of gender and agriculture
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge  and experience with database and analysis tools (Access, SPSS, STATA, SNA)
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams
  • Good organization skills and planning skills
  • Good written and communication skills
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only.  The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
Job level and salary: This position is job level 2C and starting salary is KES is 105,000 per month. This is exclusive of other benefits provided within ILRI’s National Recruited Staff Scheme.
