CARE Kenya Assistant - Finance Officer

CARE International in Kenya is looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual of high moral character and professional integrity to fill the following position, based in Kisumu:
Assistant Finance Officer
Ref: AFO-16/2010
Reports to: Accountant – Kisumu Sub-Office
Duty Station: Kisumu
Reporting to the Accountant, the Assistant Finance Officer will assist in preparing Sub-Office financial documentation including Cash Disbursement, Cash Receipts, adjusting Journal Entry Vouchers, entering financial data into the CARE finance system and filing the financial transactions as per CARE Kenya’s filing system.
Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is the preparation of sub office financial documentation to include the preparation of Cash Disbursement, Cash Receipt, and Adjusting Journal Entry Vouchers, enter financial data into the CARE finance system and file financial transaction as per CARE Kenya’s filing system.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Kisumu Office:
  1. Prepare Cash Disbursement, Cash Receipt or Adjusting Journal Entry Vouchers, as applicable, in compliance with CARE’s financial policies and procedures. Once completed, submit vouchers to the Sub Office Accountant for approval. Following payment, mark each CDV ‘PAID’.
  2. Register duly signed cheques in the cheque register. Disburse cheque, cash or fund transfer documents to the individual or vendor as indicated in the appropriate Cash Disbursement Voucher. Ensure that all the necessary receipts and invoices are returned within 5 days after the payment is issued or by the end of the accounting period and attached to the appropriate Cash Disbursement Voucher.
  3. Receive all cheques, cash or fund transfer into the CARE bank account and issue CARE Official Receipts for all payments to the Sub-Office. Following receipts complete the Cash Receipts Voucher.
  4. Enter the data for all authorized Cash Disbursement, Cash Receipt and Adjusting Journal Entry Vouchers into the SCALA finance system on a daily basis. Following the entry of the financial data, print appropriate reports for review by the Sub-Office Accountant.
  5. Type all correspondence related to daily banking activities, cheques, bank transfer requests, deposit slips and other banking documentation.
  6. File all financial documents, records and communications per the CARE standard filing system on a daily basis.
  7. Perform other financial tasks and assignments as and when required which are consistent with your level in the organization.

Qualifications:
  • CPA Part II and Pursuing Part III
  • Degree in Commerce, Accounting or Business Studies
  • At least two years experience in accounting, preferable for a humanitarian organization.
  • Knowledge of MS Office packages
  • Knowledge of SCALA accounting System is an added advantage
