This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a post-doctoral social scientist to further their career through primary research and through strengthening social science research capacity. The fellowship is a partnership between the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Mwanza, where the Fellow will be based, and the MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, Glasgow, UK, two leading public health research establishments.
The fellow will be employed by NIMR and the post is available from July 2010. The Fellow will conduct qualitative research on the transmission of sexual norms and behaviours across generations (75% of time) and contribute to strengthening the social science research capacity of NIMR, Mwanza (25% of time).

All applications are welcome, but particularly those from sub-Saharan Africa and from African researchers working overseas who wish to return to the region. The candidate must possess a social sciences doctorate, qualitative expertise, a good publication record, good supervision/mentoring skills, and will be self-reliant and highly motivated. Experience of research on sexual behaviour and family relationships in sub-Saharan Africa would be an advantage. Selection will be on the basis of merit.
