The United Nations Mission in Sudan is seeking qualified candidates for the following post(s):

1 Vacancy will remain open for at least two weeks, or until it is filled. Preference will be given to internal candidates who are at the same grade as the post being advertised, then to internal candidates one grade below the post, and finally to external candidates.
2 Equally-qualified female candidates will be given priority for selection (DPKO Under-Secretary General’s Policy Statement on Gender Mainstreaming). Candidates wishing to return home are also strongly encouraged to apply.
3 Locally-recruited General Service (GS) staff interested in applying for a National Professional Officer (NPO) post must meet the minimum requirements of the post, including academic qualifications and years of relevant professional experience. Experience in the General Service category does not count as professional experience. If selected, the GS staff member will be required to resign his/her current post before taking up the NPO post. There will be no break in service between the two types of appointments.
 
 
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Joint Logistic Operations Center (JLOC), the incumbent will be responsible for the following:
 
  • Provide overall logistic support to all components operating in the Sector’s Area Of Responsibilities (AOR) under supervision of the JLOC (South) Desk Officer designated for the Sector;
  • Plan and coordinate support to ongoing activities in the Sector within the constraints of allocation resources;
  • Provide logistical assistance support to UNMIS staff deployed to Sector locations which involves the co-ordination of support in the areas of movement control of cargo and passengers, communications and information technology, engineering, land and air transportation, property management and general supplies;
  • Design, coordinate, monitor and evaluate overall logistic support programs - including logistics forecasting, problem identification and solving, supply needs assessment, supply schedule prioritization and allocation;
  • Monitor, evaluate, coordinate and prioritize implementation of Mission Priorities Projects (MPP) and Sector HQ requirements;
  • Coordinate, monitor and evaluate daily logistics operations and disseminate information between the Sector and JLOC (South) / UNMIS Headquarters;
  • Analyze logistics trends and needs, make solutions and raise requisitions;
  • Ensure that movement plans are developed by MOVCON, including preparation of documents needed for movement of personnel and cargo; make sure that MOVCON relevant procedures and practices are established and firmly implemented;
  • Maintain contact and liaise with relevant Sector Air Liaison Officer and mission staff with respect to the status, co-ordination, monitoring and provision of air transport requirements and services;
  • Assist with the preparation of requisitions for materials and liaise with relevant Sections within the Mission, e.g., Administration, Procurement, Finance, Camp Management, Supply, CITS, and other relevant units, with respect to the supply of office furniture, office equipment, election materials etc. to ensure the smooth functioning of the unit;
  • Contribute to the Unit’s weekly/monthly reports and other reports as necessary;
  • Be available for reassignment within JLOC and within the mission area of operations;
  • Perform other tasks as designated by the respective units of JLOC, if required.

Qualifications:
Education: University degree in Database Design, Project Management, Logistics or related fields.
        Experience:  At least 2 years with a Masters Degree or equivalent (4 years with a BA) of
        progressively responsible, relevant professional experience at national or international levels is
        beneficial.  Experience with UN/NGO or other international bodies is an added asset.
Language skills:  Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic. Knowledge of other languages spoken in Sudan and/or UN languages is an advantage.
