Clinical Officer (Paediatrics) - International Rescue Committee Jobs in Kenya

The International Rescue Committee seeks to fill the following positions for its Kenya program.
The position will be based in Hagadera Refugee Camp – Dadaab.
Clinical Officer – Paediatrics
IRC is currently looking for a Clinical Officer Pediatrics who will be based in Hagadera Refugee Camp. The person will be in- charge of the pediatric ward ensuring that quality health care is availed to all patients in the pediatric ward, stabilization centre (for children with acute malnutrition) and the pediatric outpatient clinics.
Key Responsibilities
  • Overall responsible for the daily clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients admitted in pediatric ward and the stabilization centre.
  • Run the pediatric outpatient clinic and in close consultation with the M.Os.
  • Organize with fellow clinical officers and head of curative services weekly work and day off schedule to ensure that weekends are properly covered.
  • On a daily rotation basis, do the daily morning ward rounds as part of continuing medical education program and also as a means of co-ordinating efforts with the MOs and ward personnel.
  • Ensure that all assessment and treatments provided are properly documented on patient’s files.
  • Maintain an accurate and updated records keeping system in the health unit keeping in mind that any significant changes seen with regards to cases in health unit should be reported to the hospital supervisor and others relevant authorities.
  • Admit patients to the ward and review all admitted patients who are referred to the ward for admission.
  • Carry out minor surgical procedures at the health unit.
  • Attend to emergencies in the ward in the absence of the MO.
  • Participate in camp health survey e.g. Nutrition, Immunization, ect.
  • Develop clinical protocols and procedures and ensure that they are clearly displayed in the unit..
  • Training of staff on job and theory sessions.
  • Monitor and provide on-going in-service training of refugee clinical staffs.
  • Provide health talks to patients/clients on day-to-day basis.
  • Improve patient records in line with the reporting system.
  • Carry out other relevant duties as may be required by your supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Competencies;
  • Diploma in clinical medicine.
  • Higher national diploma in pediatrics.
  • Valid practicing license.
  • Computer literate.
  • Be a Team Player.
  • Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions.
  • Experience working with a non-profit humanitarian organization is an added advantage.
  • Flexibility at work.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
