INTRODUCTION
The African Council of Religious Leaders — Religions for Peace, (ACRL—RfP) is the largest and most representative multi-religious platform in Africa. The ACRL—RfP mission is to mobilize African religious communities and their leaders to build peaceful, just and harmonious societies in common action.
The Council’s objectives include transforming conflicts and advancing sustainable development; promoting peaceful co-existence and respect of religious diversity; facilitating and promoting mediation and conflict resolution within and outside faith communities; facilitating cooperation among African national Inter-Religious Councils (IRCs) in responding to pan-African challenges.
As part of the its sustainable development program activities, ACRL—RfP is currently coordinating the implementation of the New Partners Initiative (NPI) Project; ‘Scaling Up Faith-based Responses to HIV/AIDS through Multi-Religious Collaboration’ in Ethiopia through the Ethiopia Inter-faith Forum for Development, Dialogue and Action (EIFDDA) and in Tanzania through the Inter-Religious Council for Peace – Tanzania (IRCP-T). The goal of the project is to increase the scale and sustainability of faith–based organizations (FBOs) to provide prevention, care and support services to those most affected by HIV/AIDS.
Purpose
The internship program provides important practical work experience to graduates interested in gaining experience on development projects as well as to support ACRL- RfP in her service to faith-based communities. The program also seeks to enhance the Intern’s understanding of Africa’s challenges and help her/him to get insights into multi-religious strategies in addressing these challenges. The intern is expected to serve at the secretariat office in Nairobi.
Conditions of Service
The intern will be assigned to work with the NPI Project Officer, the Director of Program Coordination and Communication and the administrative section, in a range of activities.

Internship responsibilities include:
- Collecting and analyzing information on sustainable development issues;
- Compiling profiles and other data on ACRL-RfP national affiliates and partner organizations;
- Assisting in drafting project reports;
- Assisting in compiling best practices and success stories from the project partners in Ethiopia and Tanzania;
- Assisting in organizing field visits to project sites and regional meetings;
- Compiling content on sustainable development issues for the ACRL-RfP website;
- Being involved in ACRL-RfP activities and perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications
Interns should have a social science university degree, well-developed computer skills and be able to perform routine administrative tasks efficiently. Full ability to work in English and Swahili is required, and knowledge of French or Amharic is an advantage. The principal qualities required are strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, enthusiasm and a commitment to sustainable development issues.
The Intern must be prepared to work on a full-time basis spending five days a week for a period of not less than THREE MONTHS and not exceeding SIX MONTHS.
