Deputy Financial Controller, Tanzania

Description: The Deputy Financial Controller (DFC) position is responsible for the functional supervision of all Program Office-based finance staff. He/She identifies financial management skills and competency training needs of program office finance staff, and provides on-the-job training or conducts formal training to improve capacity. The position is not limited to supporting finance staff only. He/She is expected to assist program managers/coordinators, sector coordinators, etc. acquire basic competencies in proposal budget development, budget preparation arid expense monitoring in order to enhance their ability to make appropriate management decisions in regards to resource allocations and use in the program. He/she will do this through on-the-job and formal training and coaching~

The position is also responsible for effectively backstopping the Financial Controller, and as such, is responsible for learning and undertaking Head Office financial reporting functions and tasks. In the absence of the Financial Controller, he/she assumes acting responsibilities under the oversight of his/her supervisors (ACD-Program Support and Regional Controller).

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: .

• Bachelors degree in accountancy/bachelor degree in accounting

• Five (5) years of progressively increasing responsibilities in accounting and financial reporting.

• Experience in budgeting and expense monitoring.

At least 2 years of managerial experience.

Capable of preparing financial reports according to donor and CARE formats.

• Ability to manage donor funded projects/programs

• Fluent in oral and written English and Swahili

• Proficiency in MicroSoft Word and Excel

General knowledge on accounting packages e.g. SCALA, Quick-book SAGE, Peoplesoft, etc.

• Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, sensitivity to HIV&AIDS.

• Ability to operate with very minimum supervision achieving high quality output within deadlines

• Training and facilitation skills

• Ability to manage competing priorities
