COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER - 1 POSITION

African Barrick Gold (ABG) seeks to appoint a dedicated, self motivated and highly organized Community Relations Officer to join the Community Relations Team. Based at Tulawaka Mine, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing services to ensure company objectives are met at the required work performance standards and in accordance with African Barrick Gold agreed behaviors and values.



Reporting line: Human Resources Superintendent location: Tulawaka Mine Site

Work Schedule: Rotational Status (8 Weeks on / 4 Weeks off)

DUTIES:

Sustainable Community Development:

• Maintain the mine's social license to operate by facilitating the local community members to reach their own goals

• Assist the community in building its own capacity and planning to sustain opportunities and benefits post-closure., particularly in the area of livelihood enhancement

• Utilize participatory methodology to identify and implement sustainable interventions, including training, that will improve agricultural production and income generation

• Ensure that community development initiatives are clearly linked to the business case and aligned to the operation's limited mine life

• Manage and document community and government partnership projects

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Partner and align with relevant government authorities to support development programs

• Proactively plan and conduct regular engagement of local stakeholders, including both local village leadership and general community members

• Help plan and participate in public community forums on a regular basis in order to provide information, and to listen, to the wider community

• The successful applicants must have the following qualifications/skills:

• Degree in Social Sciences or related discipline

• Minimum 5 years experience in rural! community development

• Practical management of agricultural and/or entrepreneurship projects

• Proven ability to deal with grass-roots community engagement and participatory planning

• Proven ability to handle community engagement and consultation with both conviction and sensitivity

• Results driven

• High energy

• Decisiveness and follow-through

• Strong influencing and negotiation Skills

• Outstanding level of interpersonal skills

• High respect to customary cultures and practices

• Fluency in English and Swahili

• Implement a grievance mechanism to document and address local stakeholder concerns

• Take a leading role in implementing Tulawaka's Social Closure Plan, including the implementation of the risk mitigation plans and the stakeholder engagement plan

• Document the social closure process for internal and external communication purposes
