Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) was established by the Act of Parliament NO.6 of 1980 to promote, conduct, supervise, and co-ordinate fisheries research in Tanzania. The Institute is governed by the Board of Directors. This Institute is comprised of four Centres and one Substation: Mwanza Centre and Sota Substation on Lake Victoria, Kigoma Centre on Lake Tanganyika, Kyela Centre on Lake Nyasa (Malawi) and Oar es Salaam Centre on the Indian Ocean. The Institute Headquarters is located at Kunduchi in Dar es Salaam.
a) Duty station: Dar es salaam, Kigoma and Kyela
b) Qualifications and experience:
Holders of Degree of PhD in Zoology, Botany or any specialized field of the Fisheries and Fisheries Biology coupled with at least five years of practical research experience and also should have 6 written and published internationally recognized good quality publications in peer reviewed journals, five of which is first author. Proven managerial experience is essential. He/She must be computer literate.
c) Duties and Responsibilities:
• Overall officer-in-charge of a Research Centre.
• To plan for short term and long term objectives and develop means of achieving them in an appropriate time.
• Chief advisor to the Director General on matters of scientific training programmes at the Centre.
• To initiate and coordinate all research projects and programmes in the Centre.
• To follow up the preparation and publications of all research progress reports of the Centre.
• To ensure and administer realistic budget of the Centre.
• To develop corporate policies and ensures their implementation.
• Shall be in-charge of all research, 1inancial/supplies and administrative/human resources matters at the Centre.
• Shall perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Director General.
