OPEN POSITIONS AT ICRAF KISUMU


Unit: Millennium Villages Project 
        Position Title: Clinical Officers (4) – Mindhine, Lihanda and Gongo 
Position Terms: 1 year renewable contract 
        Duty Station: Community Health Facilities in rural Yala area 
Principal Responsibilities:
The incumbent shall be responsible for providing clinical services in accordance with national treatment guidelines including outpatient care, maternal and child health, HIV care services, TB treatment, health education, and conducting normal delivery; and management duties in the health facilities including ensuring availability of equipment and consumable commodities, safety and security of premises, property, staff and patients, and the keeping of up-to-date and confidential clinical records and preparation and conveyance of required reports to the District Medical Office, Project Health facilitators and other partners
Duties:
  • Provision of comprehensive and good quality clinical services to patients
  • Keeping of complete and up-to-date patient records and preparation of monthly and other periodic reports
  • Training and support of the Level 1 healthcare provision including Community Health Workers and Village Health Committees and carrying out of outreach activities to communities including mobile VCT, mobile clinics, school health programs, mass deworming, and health education
  • Responding during outbreaks and emergencies in collaboration with public health officers
  • Ensuring availability of required equipment through the Project and the Ministry of Health; ensuring continuity in the supply of consumables in the clinic
  • Collaborating where required with project scientists.
 Minimum Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine; current registration with the Kenya Clinical Officers’ Council
  • Training and experience in provision of HIV care desirable
 
        Position Title: Nurses- KECHN (7), KRCHN (6) Sauri, Yala SDH, Ramula, Lihanda, Marenyo, Onding’ 
Position Terms: 1 year renewable contract 
        Duty Station: Community Health Facilities in rural Yala area 
Principal Responsibilities:
The incumbent shall be responsible for providing clinical services in accordance with national treatment guidelines including outpatient care, maternal and child health, HIV care services, TB treatment, health education, and conducting normal delivery; and management duties in the health facilities including ensuring availability of equipment and consumable commodities, safety and security of premises, property, staff and patients, and the keeping of up-to-date and confidential clinical records and preparation and conveyance of required reports to the District Medical Office, Project Health facilitators and other partners

        Position Title: Laboratory Technologists/Technicians (3) – Onding’, Nyawara, Lihanda
Position Terms: 1 year renewable contract 
Duty Station: Community Health Facilities in rural Yala area
Principal Responsibilities:
The incumbent shall be responsible for carrying out diagnostic and research laboratory tests in the health facilities and providing support to outreach programs, ensuring availability of required consumables, and participating in External Quality Assurance programs
Duties:
  • Carrying out laboratory tests in accordance with professional guidelines
  • Keeping of complete and up-to-date laboratory records and preparation of monthly and other periodic reports
  • Ensuring availability of required equipment through the Project and the Ministry of Health; ensuring continuity in the supply of consumables in the laboratory
  • Participating in external quality assurance programs
  • Assisting other facility staff with other management duties where necessary as designated by the facility head
  • Collaborating where required with project scientists.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Valid registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists and Technicians Board (KMLTTB)
 Other Important Information (All Applicants)
  • All applicants must be employable by the Ministry of Health under the terms of the Public Service Commission i.e. retired personnel and persons currently working for the Ministry of Health are not eligible. Only short-listed applicants will be contacted

Position Title: Enterprise Facilitator (1 position)        Duty station: Yala
Contract Type & Duration:  Service Contracts – 1 year renewable      
 
Overall function:  Capacity building the community and facilitating development of community enterprise.
Description of the Position
The Enterprise Facilitator will work with Agriculture Facilitators and Community Facilitators to promote knowledge management and usage at the community to ensure participatory and sustainable development. The incumbent must demonstrate in-depth practical knowledge of inter-disciplinary development capacity. The overall goal of the position is to assist the village in achieving the MDGs.
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and ensure achievement of performance targets for all business enterprise activities of the project within the villages.
  • Nurture effective partnerships with partners responsible for enterprise support and private sector development within the villages.
  • Assist in implementing programmes to support the establishment and development small-scale on-farm and off-farm enterprises within the Villages;
  • Design modalities that will provide  market information  to assist farmers and other community members to access new or enhanced market opportunities;
  • Support implementation of micro-finance and other rural credit options to support the establishment and expansion of local enterprises;
  • Provide operational support to improve access and reduce the cost of agricultural and other inputs through collective action and community organization;
  • Design and implement practical training programmes to build community capacity in business enterprises;
  • Ensure close coordination with other sector leaders and with the Community facilitators to capture synergies across sectors, undertake planning and implementation of activities in collaboration with village committees.
  • Organize and facilitate appropriate training programs from the community and the committees
  • Mobilization and management of producer/common interest groups (includes but not limited to horticulture, dairy, cereal bank, small scale traders (kiosks, farm inputs suppliers etc)
Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Agri-Business, Business Management or equivalent. 
  • At least three (3) years field experience in the successful design and implementation of innovative small-scale business enterprises in rural areas;
  • Experience in rural enterprise micro-finance, input delivery systems, and agricultural processing and marketing.
  • Experience in development of business plans and feasibility studies for rural enterprises;
  • Rider license.
At least 3 years experience in community agri-business related work/ extension approach in a rural setting, particularly in Western Kenya. Experience in food processing desirable
