The National Youth Talent Academy Expression of Interest

The Kenya National Youth Talent Academy Background
The Kenya National Youth Talent Academy is a project of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MOYAS), the Ministry of Education and UNICEF Kenya.
This project sets out to establish “Talent Academies” (TA) which is an initiative that seeks to engage and challenge the vulnerable adolescents and youths through an innovative approach that taps into their talent in order to boost their opportunities and self confidence for improved livelihoods, in line with their aspirations and possibly the needs of the communities in which they live.
In this pilot phase, the project aims to train 500 talented out of school youth to empower them and build their confidence and sense of purpose through skills and talent development over an initial nine month to period through use of the Talent Academy model as a basis for a more systematic integration of youth needs and aspiration within the GOK national planning and budgeting system.
The main project objective initially is the socioeconomic integration of children and young people in “desperate situations” through sports and performing arts. Upon success of the initial pilot phase, it is hoped that the government and other stakeholders will adopt the Talent Academies model into its national planning for out of school and in school youth.
With lessons drawn from the first phase of the project, the NYTA seeks the following:
1.  Media Partner
The media partner will develop a reality TV and radio shows based on identifying and celebrating talents among youth in Kenya.
The media company is expected to conduct an effective campaign on talent development that will include: road shows targeting all categories of youth, multi media talent competitions (radio and TV). In addition, the media partner will lead in connecting talented youth to opportunities of further growth.
Interested media houses need to indicate their profiles and intended partner contribution.
2.  Marketing and PR firm
The firm will have the responsibility of developing a comprehensive communication strategy that will include creating an appealing brand of the NYTA that will facilitate penetration of the national , regional and international markets through aggressive marketing and branding.
The strategy will include hosting of international events within and out of the country for the purposes of marketing, raising revenue for the NYTA.
3.  Established trainers in performing arts, music, fine art and various sports
Ideally national/international level accredited trainers, they should be independent technical experts with excellent grounding in theory and practical aspects.
The “talent development” experts will provide services at the main NYTA campus at Kasarani and other regional centres on contract basis.
4. Associate training institutions in performing arts, music and sports
These will be institutions already providing training in various talents in the country such as sports and arts.
Interested institutions should demonstrate training capacity by providing comprehensive profile that should include personnel and facilities. Selected institutions will be expected provide training based on the talent academy model.
5.  Established and successful performing artists, musicians and producers from Kenya, and East Africa
These will be mentors to young talented Kenyans that will provide on the job training. Selected mentors will provide time based training and may host the trainees. Performing groups will need to indicate training capacity and availability of equipment.
6.  National sports and artists associations
The national associations will partner the NYTA by coordinating selection, technical training and sustaining the concept within respective associations.
7.  Partner implementing organizations (private companies, NGOs or FBOs)
Private companies involved in various aspects of talent development who would wish to participate in the initiate will be selected on the basis of their proposed contribution to the project.
8. Training  institutions willing to  host  residential  trainings over different  periods (Universities, schools, etc)
Interested institutions should demonstrate capacity in proving appropriate physical facilities over a 6-9 month period or over school holidays.
