Mercy Corps Kenya is seekingTechnical Advisors for the upcoming “Yes Youth Can” USAID funded program who will work closely with the Chief of Party and Mercy Corps/ Kenya Country Director to implement economic empowerment and civic engagement programs for Kenyan youth in Rift Valley and/or Central Province.
Civic Engagement activities will include development and delivery of leadership training for grassroots community based organizations, youth self help groups, women’s groups, and other associations of young people.
In addition, Yes Youth Can will establish district and province-wide networks of youth organizations to increase engagement in national level policy issues including implementation of the Agenda 4 reforms.
The Civic Engagement Advisor will be responsible for managing staff and local partners, designing and delivering training, and providing technical oversight to all activities under this component.
Economic Empowerment activities include comprehensive life skills, job-skills, and entrepreneurship training for qualified groups of young people in Rift Valley and Central Province.
Participants will be eligible for a small-grants program for micro and small enterprises, and job-placement services in urban centers.
The Economic Empowerment Advisor will be responsible for designing and delivery of livelihoods training, grants management, managing technical staff and consultants, including international and national sub-grantees and contractors.
The positions will be based in either Eldoret or Thika.
Knowledge and experience:
- BA/S or equivalent in social sciences, economic development, or international development;
- Minimum of 5-7 years experience in international development; previous Kenya experience essential;
- Technical expertise in youth livelihoods development and/or youth civic engagement
- Experience managing youth, conflict/reconciliation, job skills/employment and/or civic education programs;
- History of working effectively and respectfully with host government, NGOs, contractors and other partners;
- Ability to effectively convey programmatic goals, enlist partnerships, and work with a range of program and external stakeholders; and
- Proficiency in written and spoken Kiswahili required.
