Position: Finance Assistant
Unit: Finance Department German Red Cross (GRC)
Reporting to: GRC Finance Delegate
Duty Station: German Red Cross - Nairobi
Overall objective of the post:
The Finance Assistant will take responsibility for the financial reporting of the GRC Headquarter and of a number of projects assigned to her/him.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounts
§ Follow up of financial reports presented by partners:
o Request for them if not received in time.
o Screening of documents: accuracy of documents, quality of the invoices, relevance of the expenditure according to the approved budget.
o Preparation of comments on financial reports for partners and follow up of feedback.
o Monthly reconciliations of Partner and GRC accounts
o Entry of data in PROABIS / GRC accounting software
§ Preparation of end of month closing: necessary check up before closing (accounting codes, budgets etc.), print outs and back up.
§ Preparation of closing documents to be sent to Berlin.
§ She/he must report any irregularity to the Finance Delegate.
Field assistance
§ Assist the field (partners) when required.
Office Administration (acting as deputy Finance Manager)
§ Follow up and update rent and lease contracts, insurance agreements etc.
§ Control and follow up the running costs of the GRC premises utilities, stationery etc
§ She/he might be requested to take over some of the Administrative Assistant’s duties, during his absence.
Perform any other work related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager.
Education/Qualifications and experience
1.A degree in Business Administration or Accounting from a recognised university
2.CPA level 2
3.Over 2 years progressive experience in a busy Finance Office
4.Good computer skills, especially in Excel and Word, working within a Windows environment
5.Fluency in English

Duration of the post: 6 months, with possibilities of extension to 2 years.
