General Functions:
The IPv6 Program manager report to the Communication Area Manager and works closely with the rest of AfriNIC Areas to ensure that AfriNIC’s IPv6 Program and Activities are well coordinated Internally and communicated to the community. He/She will be responsible for improving IPv6 knowledge and uptake in Africa region while building confidence on related matters among Governments, Regulators and policy makers and more globally among the local community.
In this role the v6PM will work with the local and wider community, particularly Operators and AfriNIC members to understand their needs and work with the team Internally to come up with strategy and program to cover these needs. The v6PM will look for opportunity for cooperation and collaboration with International Organisations in order to support local initiatives in IP development area.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Management Team to define and implement AfriNIC IPv6 development Program in Africa.
  • Facilitate global IPv6 outreach in AfriNIC service Region.
  • Clearly communicate AfriNIC message and vision on IPv6 and collect feedback from the community (Private, Civil and Government) on their needs for IPv6 adoption.
  • Research and communicate government and industry regulatory anf/or policy framework models that currently support IPv6 transition.
  • Proactively develop and implement programs, project and products that will encourage IPv6 adoption within the AfriNIC service region.
  • Conduct Field research on challenges, good practices and success stories related to IPv6 deployment including transition mechanisms. Communicate the outcome of these researches.
  • Promote achievements, experiences and best practices of countries and Organisations engaged in IPv6 in the region and worldwide.
  • Promote AfriNIC IPv6 program globally and attract partners to strengthen local initiatives to provide more support and awareness.
  • Produce an IPv6 commonly asked questions and answers from different stakeholders (Technical, Business, Policy makers and End-user).
  • Collect statistics of IPv6 deployment (e.g., IPv6 traffic, web access ration across different transition mechanisms, BGP routing table quantity) and provide analysis where applicable through collaboration with Senior technical Staff, and others within the AfriNIC community.
  • Develop reports and training material to disseminate to various audiences (regulatory and policy, ISP business managers, ISP technical managers and network engineers).
  • Represent AfriNIC and the IPv6 program on appropriate forum as authorized by Management.
  • Provide presentations to the AfriNIC community and Policy Makers on IPv6.
  • Lead collaboration effort with relevant organization for IPv6 promotion.
  • Develop realistic budget plan and manage the program’ cost.

Skills Required:

  • Post Graduate qualification in Technical and/or Communications fields.
  • Expert knowledge of the Internet and related technologies.
  • Ability to efficiently manage Projects and Programs using systematic approach to complete tasks by defining clear objectives and priorities.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Projects Management desired.
  • Broad Exposure to Internet Technical community and related discussion groups.
  • Previous membership and non-profit based organisation experience
  • Understanding of bottom up operations environment.
  • Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Good written, verbal communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Ability to present to a wide variety of international audiences in an organised and coherent manner
  • Computer skills including Office Suite and Project Management tools.
  • Good knowledge of Africa and its ICT environment.

Skills Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Business, engineering, Marketing or related field of study
  • Written, verbal communication and presentation skills in French and/or Portuguese.

Additional Duties:

  • Collaborate with other RIRs on joint activities.
  • Assist the Training Unit in developing and delivering IPv6 training materials.
  • Lead the effort to create an active Africa IPv6 Task Force
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned by Management
