Junior Livelihoods Analyst


      The Junior Livelihoods Analyst will report directly to the Baseline Coordinator and indirectly to the Livelihood Policy Manager and the Chief Technical Advisor; with overall supervision of the FAO Officer in Charge and FAO TCEO.  The analyst will also work in close consultation with the Baseline Analyst, the gender analyst, the Food Security Technical Manager as well as other Senior Analysts and the Data Systems Manager.  
      The analyst’s primary task is that of support for FSNAU livelihood baseline and research initiatives.  These tasks include providing overall support for baseline and other publications through research, editing and writing. Additionally, the analyst will be responsible for training and capacity building activities for FSNAU staff. The consultant will focus on the following areas and tasks:
Responsibilities:
  • support in producing, publication standard, baseline series reports and technical manuals, ensuring a high standard of technical writing, analysis and presentation of results;
  • work with the Livelihoods Baseline Team in the baseline data analysis and compilation of graphs/tables,
  • assist the livelihood policy manager and the CTA in writing, reviewing, and editing the FSNAU applied research reports and publications (e.g. FSNAU’s Technical Series Reports, Report Profiles) and products (e.g. Presentations, Website Material);
  • provide support for methodological improvements to FSNAU data collection, analysis and product delivery for baselines
  • lead internal training and capacity building activities with special focus on the report writing skills of the FSNAU Resource Teams, providing annual training plans, curriculum design and training delivery 
  • develop presentation materials and reports as requested by the Baseline Coordinator and Livelihoods Research Manager
  • Participate in internal and external events such as meetings, trainings, and necessary field trips that relate to the livelihood baseline and research initiative.
Minimum qualifications:
  • advanced university degree in related field;
  • minimum 4 years of relevant work experience;
  • strong critical thinking and strong English writing and editing skills;
  • high degree of self-motivation and initiative;
  • willingness to learn and apply new analytical approaches;
  • strong skills in basic computer packages;
  • sensitivity to the social and cultural environment of Somalia;
  • Able to travel in Somalia, security permitting.
