Advocacy Officer 

 REPORTING TO:    Coordinator
DUTY STATION:    JUBA

BACKGROUND:

 The Sudanese Network for Democratic Elections (SuNDE) is a nationwide non-partisan coalition of civil society organizations and faith-based groups committed to promoting the ability of the Sudanese public to participate freely, equitably, and effectively in transparent and accountable democratic processes. 
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:  
Under the direct supervision of the SuNDE Coordinator, the Advocacy officer is responsible for working with the SuNDE policy and advocacy committee to develop and advocate for SuNDE policy recommendations.  The Advocacy Program Officer is responsible for designing and implementing an overall advocacy strategy for SuNDE including SuNDE’s media strategy. The Advocacy Program Officer will also take the lead in drafting SuNDE press releases and other official correspondence with external actors.

Briefly, the key responsibilities include:

 1. Plan, develop and implement an appropriate policy & advocacy strategy for SUNDE
2. Coordinate and communicate with other networks, key decision makers and media
3. Create visibility for SUNDE at the national and international levels
4.  Coordination and support of SUNDE members at all levels (national and state)
5. Keep track of any media mentioning SUNDE and compile all press articles mentioning SuNDE
6. Organize press conferences and briefings, develop fact sheets and talking points, and undertake all media activities related to SUNDE 
Required Experience
  • Holder of a relevant University Degree, a law degree is preferred; (a higher diploma in a relevant field with substantive experience will be considered)
  • Knowledge and previous experience of high level advocacy work
  • Experience in project management is desirable
 
Required Skills
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports;
  • Must be proficient in English,
  • Ability to interact effectively with a geographically dispersed multicultural team
  • Strong computer literacy, including ability to use word processing and spreadsheet and to search the internet for research purposes.
  • Ability to demonstrate neutrality and non-partisanship
