Daystar University - Vice-Chancellor

Daystar University, located in Nairobi, Kenya, is an inter-denominational Christian institution that is well known for its exciting approach to higher education, its high standards of teaching, and its vibrant community life.
The vision of Daystar University is to be a distinguished Christ centered institution of higher learning for the transformation of church and society.
Our current student body is made up of students from various countries in Africa, Asia and North America, and our graduate employment rate is among the best in Kenya.
The university has three campuses, the main campus in Athi River, a scenic setting less than two hours from the city centre, in Nairobi on Ngong Road and Valley Road junction and in Mombasa on Moi Avenue.
Daystar University seeks to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and committed person to fill the position Vice-Chancellor.
The Vice-Chancellor is the academic and administrative head of the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work under the general direction of the University Council and he/she will be responsible for the following;
  • Overall responsibility for planning, implementation and regular overview of the university’s academic resources and programs;
  • Providing effective and efficient management of the university’s assets and facilities including human, financial, administrative, industrial and information management resources;
  • Ensuring the formulation and successful implementation of the university’s strategic plan;
  • Creating an enabling environment for knowledge sharing, effective research and consulta ncy;
  • Ensuring the spiritual and social wellbeing of the university community;
  • Ensuring the recruitment of qualified faculty and other personnel;
  • Providing leadership for quality assurance
  • Providing leadership for fundraising, marketing, communication and networking with relevant partners and stakeholders
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications
  • A PhD from a recognized university;
  • Academician with considerable research and teaching experience;
  • Mature evangelical Christian with a reputation for integrity and a track record of Christian service
  • Considerable leadership and management experience at senior level in an academic or research institution;
  • Excellent leadership, managerial and organizational skills, including demonstrated ability to lead programs.
  • Familiarity with the operations of private universities will have an added advantage;
  • Excellent team leadership, writing, communication, networking and interpersonal skills;
  • Track record of fostering partnerships with churches and other organizations, nationally, regionally and internationally;
  • Track record of resource mobilization for research, scholarships and development;
  • Computer literacy and ability to provide leadership for the harnessing of information technologies for the development of the university
Terms of Appointment
The appointment is for a 5-year term, renewable once depending on the appointee’s performance. It comes with an attractive remuneration package. However, the University highly values a call to serve.
