The National Reference laboratory (NRL) is seeking to recruit self-motivated and qualified employee to the following position:
Position: Technical Assistant (TA) in ImmunoVirology
Duration: One year renewable contract
The TA in Immuno-Virology serves under the Director General to provide comprehensive technical, administrative and managerial advice and assistance to the National Reference Laboratory (NRIi. in support of strengthening national laboratory operations and systems.
Responsibilities include:
Facilitating technical support for strengthening diagnostic capacity in Immuno-Virology in order to meet laboratory program goals and objectives.
The incumbent will provide advice and technical assistance to the NRL and other partners in the development of national laboratory operating guidelines and the roadmap for upgrading laboratory services, according to the operational plan for the national laboratory network.
This position is physically located at NRL.

Description of duties
- Assist the unit directors, to plan, oversee, manage, and coordinate and to provide technical support towards the fulfillment of the Immuno-Virology unit goals.
- Participate in the continued training of technicians at NRL and in the peripheral labs in ImmunoVirology.
- In collaboration with the unit directors plans and supervises the execution of all practical activities of the unit as well as laboratory tests on samples sent from other health institutions around the country
- Carry out operational and fundamental research activities and assists in the coordination with other international research institutions.
- Provides research inputs and continuous education in laboratory management
- Promotes within the laboratory network the use of good laboratory practices for diagnostic tests, bio-safety, standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control and assurance
- Mentors NRL upcoming biomedical scientists in the fields of research and other technical fields
- Executes any other activity as may be assigned by the Director General
Required Qualifications
- At least a masters degree in biomedical sciences
- 6 years experience in a medical laboratory
- Extensive experience in Immuno-Virology program management
- Extensive experience in supervision and training of lab biotechnologists
- Extensive experience in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training manuals
- Ability to organize and complete tasks
- Extensive ability to communicate using ICT
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
