Job Title: Security Coordinator
Location: Juba office
Reports to: The Director
JOB PURPOSE
The security Officer is responsible for managing all security related issues and disseminating relevant information to all staff and counterparts; making sure that Plan international staff and property are safe and secure. The Security officer will also be expected to Plan to support the development of an appropriate framework of security measures and procedures, which will enhance Plan Sudan’s overall capacity to protect staff and assets, and respond appropriately to threats and security incidents. The Officer will also be required to write appropriate incident reports.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Update all staff with relevant security updates on a daily basis and in the event of security related incidents
- Work in collaboration with UNDSS and NGO security coordination agency and update the list of contacts
- Research and schedule relevant security training courses with UNMIS or other agencies.
- Attend all security meetings of the UN and other relevant counterparts in government and NGO field.
- Facilitate weekly SRT meetings and ensure information is disseminated to relevant parties
- Administer the security contact tree
- Ensure all staff are conversant with relevant security protocols and take security issues seriously
- Brief staff on security concerns
- Address inquiries on security issues
- Monitor the updates given by staff traveling out of the office to field locations
- Ensure that staff radio checks are done regularly
- Manage all plan security assets, i.e. Radios, Satellite telephones, Fire fighting equipment etc
- Ensure all security SOP’s are known and adhered to by all staff.
- Manage and train the guards at all Plan premises
- Produce weekly update reports.
- Prepare and manage effectively the security budget.
- Maintain contact with Plan Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Security Advisor and Global Plan Security Advisor regarding country office security strategy and incident reporting.
- Maintain appropriate levels of life-support materials including food stocks, water, medicine, blankets, etc in the relevant contexts where and when necessary.
- Prepare a security orientation document / briefing and ensure all new incoming staff and visitors are briefed upon arrival.
Other responsibilities
- Ensuring that Plan SSP Terms and Conditions of Employment are adhered to.
- Support and develop continual process of contextual analysis at all staff levels.
- Review existing risk assessments and ensure that Standard Operational Procedures are developed, operational and consummate with risk levels.
- Support compliance of Standard Operational Procedures.
- Review physical security arrangements of Plan offices and ensure that Plan employed security guards are effective.
- Proven experience in setting up and maintaining a security system
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelors degree in international relations, Social works and social administration
- At least 3 years experience in security management in an International NGO.
- Good computer knowledge; with good command of Microsoft Office Package
- Good record management skills
- Training and facilitation skills
- Ability to work and fit within a team environment
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Supervisory skills
- Speaks, reads and writes English fluently.
- Experience working in highly volatile areas of Southern Sudan is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Arabic will be an added advantage
