Operations Officer, Micro Finance -t International Finance Corporation (IFC)

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is a global investor and advisor, and a leader in sustainable private sector investments in emerging markets.

The Corporation is today one of the leading investors in the microfinance industry and has completed more than 160 microfinance transactions in 50 countries, which indirectly support access to financial services for 8 million low-income entrepreneurs.

IFC is looking for an energetic and dynamic operations officer based in Nairobi to support its Africa microfinance program. The individual will be part of IFC’s microfinance team in the region, and will be responsible for appraising, structuring and supervising individual microfinance projects.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Analyzing and structuring the advisory aspect of microfinance projects
  • Monitoring and supervising a portfolio of microfinance projects
  • Providing market intelligence and knowledge that improve the quality of IFC projects
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with clients, investors and multilateral partners to facilitate microfinance projects
  • Participating in program support, strategy formulation and research
Strong candidates will have:
  • A Masters degree in business or similar field
  • Strong financial, analytical and project design skills
  • Demonstrated judgment in evaluating microfinance business opportunities
  • Good knowledge of international and African microfinance in a commercial context
  • Experience in advisory services project design, management and supervision
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience (project work and microfinance),
  • with a proven ability to work in teams and deliver high quality work within deadlines
  • Excellent spoken and written skills in English; French is a plus
  • Motivated and enthusiastic about the opportunities and challenges of working in Sub-Saharan Africa to achieve sustainable development
