Technical Director - National Reference laboratory (NRL) Jobs in Rwanda

The National Reference laboratory (NRL) would like to recruit a self-motivated and qualified employee to the following position:

Position: Technical Director

Location: National Reference Laboratory

Duration: Position is for a period of one year renewable

Remuneration: Very attractive

Supervising authority: Successful candidate will report to the Director General of NRL

Overall job function of the Technical Director:
  • Provide a range of scientific and technical guidance to the institution to achieve NRL’s mission, goals and objectives.
  • Support the institution in strategic planning, development and implementation of national policies and protocols.
  • Advise the DG on matters of laboratory technical operations.
  • Strengthen the diagnostic capacity at NRL and other labs in the country.
  • Support in the development and implementation of systems of quality control and quality assurance for NRL and other labs in the country.
  • Identify training needs and assess the effectiveness of lab training activities.
  • Lead the development of operational & fundamental research protocols at NRL.
  • Collaborate with partners on technical matters.
Main responsibilities:
  • Report to the DG on laboratory technical operations
  • Coordinate scientific and technical activities with NRL partners and stakeholders
  • Implement and oversee NRL technical activities
  • Follow NRL technical activities in conjunction with partners and stakeholders
  • Coordinate the collection and analysis of NRL data to generate requested lab indicators
Experience/Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have:
  • At least a Master degree in Biomedical Sciences with 8 years experience or PhD degree specialized in biomedical Sciences
  • A minimum of 8 years experience working in a large clinical or research laboratory
  • Experience in laboratory management, developing protocol research, relevant training materials, and training of laboratory personnel.
  • Excellent computer skill (including laboratory information system) Team spirit
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and/or French with a good working knowledge of the other.
