Background

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has a well-established Sudan Operations Center (SDOC). Current SDOC operations are largely focused on assisting partners with the implementation of physical infrastructure projects including designing, constructing and rehabilitating roads and bridges, schools, clinics and Government and Ministry offices. SDOC also procures goods and services for a number of partners and provides logistics and operational support to institutions in Sudan with the overall objective to build peace and to promote the implementation of the CPA. 
UNOPS SDOC works with various United Nations partners including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Bank.

UNOPS SDOC is in the process of negotiating with donors on a number of new projects both in the North (including Darfur) and South Sudan. SDOC is thus soliciting applications from experts qualified in Project Management.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Logistics Associate will work under the direct supervision of the Logistics/Operations Officer. The incumbent will be responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Ongoing monitoring and updating of computerized inventory; cross-checking with physical verification.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence as needed.
  • Supervise Warehouse, Logistics, and Asset Management Staff.
  • Assist with the receipt and inspection of all delivered assets from contractors, suppliers, and field offices.
  • Manage inspection of all stores and equipment for correct quantity, quality, damage, completeness, and serviceability, with direction from Logistics/Operations Officer.
  • Ensure all stored assets are securely kept, protected from elements, well-organized, and properly accounted for.
  • Inform the Logistics/Operations Officer of daily stores transactions and whenever items are received or delivered.
  • Assist with delivery of stores and equipment according to distribution plans, issue vouchers from the Logistics Office.
  • Assist with arranging transportation as instructed by Logistics/Operations Officer.
  • Supervise warehouse laborers and as needed casual laborers.
  • Manage stock take of stores on a monthly basis or whenever requested by Logistics/Operations Officer.
  • Assist with the compilation and proper documentation of damaged, lost or and unserviceable equipment on a monthly basis or whenever requested.
  • Assist in creating and implementing Maintenance Schedule for all project and administration assets.
  • Assist with the monitoring of the safety and security of the warehouses and their compounds.
  • Understudy to Logistics/Operations Officer.
  • Complete any other tasks as directed by Logistics/Operations Officer.

Required Selection Criteria

Competencies 
  • Computer literate, thorough knowledge of MS Office and other computer software applications in use.
  • Knowledge of UN rules and regulations will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of ATLAS asset and inventory module will be considered an asset.

Education/Experience/Language

  • Secondary education is a must.
  • Specialized certification in the relevant field is a must.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in logistics, Inventory, Asset Management, procurement or other relevant field preferably with UN or other international organization.
  • University degree is desirable.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and local languages.
